Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro for Canon

Worked for a little while in a studio today. I would appreciate some comments on these. Thanks.

Some great lighting and great poses there --- looked like a fun shoot! My favorites are 2, 4, and 11.

I think the lighting is boring. Really beautiful light can make the shot. This light is too flat especially for a larger girl. I no skinny minny myself so I know how important lighting is. You need to increase your lighting ratio so that the shadow is darker. This will help her face look thinner. It looks like you have something similar to clamshell lighting set up. This is great for thinner people, but not her. ALso I think the back ground is to focused and you should have pulled her away from it. That way the light would have fallen off a bit and would have created a little bit of drama. Your posing was pretty good. Overall, I am being very picky and for many this may seem fine, but none of us will learn to be better photographers without some constructive criticism. You did a good job, but it could be better. and this is the case will all photos even mine :)

Thanks much to you both for your comments. I did try some other kinds of lighting, more dramatic but I didn't like the shadows. I'm sure I just wasn't doing it right I know the ideas you have in mind. Doing it is apparently harder than I thought! :)

I tried some hot lights (not flashes) but wasn't happy with any of them :(

They are good shots, although I think that they are all lacking in lighting IMHO... there seems to be more lighting focus on the backdrop then there is on the subject causing the image to look a bit flat. Next time try putting a large white sheet with light behind it in front of your subject (obviously out of the focal range) or a large white sheet of paper or a large white artist canvas with light reflecting directly down on the white which will bounce warmly on the subject. Just a suggestion.
I love photoshoots and it looks like you had a great time with this one!
