Here's my idea. I have my own servers and I design/develop websites for a living. I would love to develop a sister site to dpchallenge that is a little more "reckless". It would support digital manipulation in some contests and would also host contests for nudes and other suggestive photos. Would anyone be interested in this kind of thing? I just love photographing people and would enjoy creating a forum for this.

The only catch is - I would need help from the dpchallenge web developers to get the site going. And, the site would need to have a free age verification system to allow access.

Sounds great. I really like the idea of doing some digital manipulation but wouldn't want this site to change. A sister site is a great idea.

Great idea! I would definitely participate in a sister site that.

count me in, but how far would you tolerate image manipulation?

In challenges where image manipulation is not only part of the challenge, but a requirement, I would not want to set rules for how much post processing could be applied. I think that art comes in many forms and the end result is in the voting.

I would like to require that the top 3 winning artists upload the final photoshop image (or whatever manipulation tool they used) with layers and channels intact. We could keep it with the winning image so others could download it and see how it was done.

Thanks for the support. If the dpchallenge developers are not interested I'll get some programming friends to help out - it will just take a little longer to get going :).

The only problem with uploading the highly detailed, full editable version of a picture that was digitally manipulated lies in the copyright... the artists who submit their photos hold their own copyrights to them. With the full layered version of the file easily downloadable, then anyone can edit it, tweak it, change it, and try to pass it off as their own work. I for one don't like the idea of people taking my work and changing it easily, then trying to pass it off as their own hard work... I've spent a lot of time with photoshop on single projects. It's just not something I would do with digital stuff I made, and frankly I'm not that great, some people are amazing, and I just don't see them sharing the Photoshop files with just anyone who wants a go at em. Just my thoughts on this aspect... Other than that I love hte idea of a digital manipulation site. Photoshop is a lot of fun, and lets your imagination go wild. Hope to hear about the launch of a sister site like this in the future!

Like the other dpc, you could require an original photo with EXIF info that is obviously a part of the final result, and not the psd file as it can get quite large anyway.

I share some of Wes' concern; although members could "promise" to not re-use someone else's image without permission, you'd have to make the servers completely secure and require registration/password for any access to prevent the surfing public from finding them. I like being able to see how folks really DO the work though...so here are two workaround suggestions:
1) folks could resample the final layered) image to so small a size that no one can re-use it effectively -- say 2"x3" @ 72dpi. The composite could be displayed at a more normal size (we do that anyway).
2) put the layered files on a secure FTP site and send members the address, or attach an archive file to an email to members. Or you could have an FTP link from the display page to the layered file which requires a password.

I barely have time for DPC now, so I don't know if I could participate much in this; I'd be more interested in the sharing/feedback part than an actual contest...

I agree with Wes. I would not want any artist having their work ripped off. I think the work arounds are good. Make the Photoshop original so small that it could not effectivly be reused.

I would also suggest that only members who have submitted a photo in the current challenge get the winning image sent to them. I would like to believe that there is a certain amount of un-spoken respect between the artists.

I'm talking with some programming friends about the site. I'm going to do this sister site. It will take us some time to get it running. I'll post here when it's ready.

i would be interested in a site for digital manipulation as well (of original photography. this should be stipulated somewhere. lol)

as for uploading a master file? it would be impossible for my stuff for a number of reasons. when i'm really messing with a photo, i use a couple different programs, layer merging, all kinds of different things.

i'm having a hard time with this as it is. right now i'm editting a friend's photo for this contest, and i'm trying to write down all the steps i'm using so it can be reproduced. becuase i know it's gonna get called on.
