I had fun with it. Took forever though.
What got me was I really build up momentum, and then the screen brings up a photo and I just sit there with nothing to say, at all, whatsoever.

Something else I noticed, is I'd only look at the title if I couldn't 'see' the illusion.

I will do this commenting and voting on all the entries again if less than 201.

lol I looked at an entry with water (lake) in it couldn't think of much to say so I said I really like the guy swimming or fishing in this photo. I usually get a PM back asking me where but lol thats cool.

Challenge: Illusions II (08/01/2005 - 08/07/2005)
Submissions: 122

Stats: You have rated 121 of 122 images (99%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 121 images (99%) in this challenge.

First time I have done this. Its was actually fun... and useful, I found myself thinking more and analysing the images in more detail, which gives me more understanding about my own submissions...

Well I finished a tad bit late because the last comment took longer to type than I thought it would. I hope everyone benefits.

BTW My commenting style is no holds barred. I tell it like it is. Please don't take it personal. Take it how it's intended. I truly mean to help but can not sugar coat...

congrats to all that have accomplished this. I would like to see a tick box on the submission page for people that do not want comments so we wouldn't have to comment on peoples photos that didn't want comments.

Anyone interested in trying this for the Rain Challenge??? There are only 228 entries (not too many more than the Illusions II Challenge).

??? ;-)

I can't think of anyone who wouldn't want comments...That's part of the reason a lot of people enter, to get their work critiqued.

But does that mean you'll pledge to comment on all 228 entries for the Rain Challenge? :-)

I'll commit to do it again, but I'd like to have a few others who are willing to do the same. In the long run, it only helps the commenter get better at their own photography... So, it's just a small investment in your own future. (Yeah, my Mom taught me the guilt trip technique pretty well! LOL)

I HOPE that there will be a few people willing to do this with me. ANYONE?!?!? TooCool started it for the Illusions Challenge and notonline did it prior to that. C'mon folks - I know you want to step up to the plate! =-D

I'm gonna do it regardless, as I found it immensely satisfying last time.

You don't have to be an "expert" to do this... You will learn (as will those photogs on whose images you comment) as you continue to do this. Sure, you'll tick some people off by being honest, but there's not a single comment I've received that I couldn't EVENTUALLY relate to. It takes a little chutzpah to do it, but by being honest, you're setting the examply by which you want to receive feedback on your own images. Come on people, step up to the plate... You can do it if you set your mind to it - there's actually quite a bit of time before the Rain Challenge voting period is complete.

:-)

I can't commit to commenting on every picture, because I don't know that i will get ot do that (the past few challenges I've actually voted in, I've barely had time to vote for the minimum).

But, I do recognize that I take better pictures when I am commenting a lot. For that reason, I am not going to enter again until I have made 100 comments (unless I have just a tremendously awesome shot, of course ;) ).
08/16/2005 07:11:08 PM · #64
Interesting that you should choose that number. I actually just today decided that I want to comment on at least 100 entries for every challenge that I enter. Therefore, I'm a little behind the times currently, so I have some catching up to do!

Thanks for your encouraging and thoughtful response! :-D

Anyone willing to take the plunge with me??!?!?? (Or am I forever a forum thread killer?)
08/16/2005 09:10:07 PM · #66
I kill my own threads! No I AM the thread killer!!!
08/16/2005 09:22:42 PM · #67
ROFLMAO - No you're not Mandy! LOL I really enjoy your comments and shots. You're quite prolific too (if I may say). And even in my short time here, you have proven yourself to be skilled, constantly improving, and amazingly resourceful. I would love to get more comments from you. And I promise that I won't let you kill this thread! (teehee)

08/16/2005 10:30:29 PM · #68
Anyone? C'mon guys/gals... I'm not going to let this thread die until I get at least one other person who commits to doing this with me... PAHLEEZ?!?

I'm not fond of the challenges at hand SJ so I might be inclinded to take you up in the persuit. I didn't enter the rain challenge but I'll see what I can come up with for time.

Thanks notonline! I know you've already done this too, but at least I don't feel completely alone out there in the cold, cruel world... :-) Thanks!
08/17/2005 12:53:28 AM · #73
Ok Jimmy! I'm with ya. My scores in rain is down the drain. I would be lucky to get a 5 average after a dismal 4.2 start. Voters can be cruel :( Anyway, I'll comment on at least 50% of the rain entries but I'll shoot for all of them. I'll be out of town so I'll have to comment and run. don't worry, they'll be constructive ones even though I got one comment that ... nevermind. I don't want this to be a personal rant :) LOL!
08/17/2005 01:00:06 AM · #74
Well alright rikki11! I'll take 50% comments any day! Thank you for stepping up to the plate, and I'll return it by commenting on 100% of the Rain Challenge entries - minus mine of course. :-)

I had fun and learned a lot doing this for the Illusions Challenge, so am looking forward to commenting on each of the Rain Challenge entries.

Anyone else willing to pledge at least 50%? Thank you again rikki11!
