What if the stats for entries in challenges during voting included a trend indicator. By this I mean in addition to the current average vote, a simple 3 state indication of whether the current average is higher, lower, or the same as the one previous.

Just a thought.

Interesting thought, however:

1. What rating scale would you use to grade the very FIRST one?
2. What happens at the end when most people go back and modify the scores they gave to break out some of the really good or really bad?

Don't think it'll work.

1. Obviously, it's "higher", since zero is as low as you can get...
2. Isn't that the point of the trend indicator? What difference does it make if they are fresh votes or adjusted votes? They still drive the trend...

My concerns would be somewhat more focused; since our voting results are calculated to a micro-detail (4 digits after the zero) every single vote represents a trend change and the indicator would be useless. I mean, 6.3795-to-6.3789 is NOT a downward trend in my book.

I suppose if it could be set to calculate "trends" by the 10ths...

Really, though, do we need this? I don't think so, but that's just me...
