Hi guys,
What type of color printer do you have ?
and what is your opinion about yours?

Epson Stylus Photo 870 - very pleased and impressed with it. Great (photo-like) results on good paper.
If I was buying one now, I'd buy the Epson 950 (or 2100 if I could afford it - I think it's the 2200 in the US).
Canon printers are supposed to be very good but I had one before the Epson (a while ago now) and the print heads kept clogging on me. I would imagine they're better these days.

| Is it worth it ? I was going to buy a better one in my price range but with cost of paper and ink I found it was much more affordable to get pictures prossesed at my local camera shop on a 1 million dollar printer? |

I own two colour printers, an Olympus P400 dye sublimation and an Epson Photo EX ink jet.
Both are excellent printers. The image quality from the Olympus is superb. I just wish the image size capability was better.
The Epson has the size flexibility that I desire and goes to 11 x 14 and beyond, which is more than enough. But, the ink jet quality is not as good a the dye sublimation process.
So, in both cases it is a compromise. I wish that there was a printer that could bridge the gap.

I also went with Epson, but mines the 830, like pinback I was very impressed by the quality of print (expecially as its a sub £100 printer), I think for best quality I'll have to fork out for premium glossy paper but thats not too bad. |

I have the Lexmark x5150 All-In-One Printer, Copier, Scanner. I was never impressed with Lexmark in the past but I must say I am super impressed with this one. I am actually receiving better photo realistic results with this printer than any other Ink Jet I have seen. I know, hard to believe but it's true. This machine has Lexmark's new 3 pico liter droplet technology versus their old 7 pico liter droplet size. Huge difference. I have taken prints to work printed on glossy photo paper and folks that didn't believe me that they were printed on an inkjet printer. I especially like that you can place an original photo on the scanner and use the photo copy feature and get an exact duplicate of the original. Excellent. I'm very happy. This All-In-One cost me $149.00 at Staples.

I've got a HP 350 portable printer, and it sucks ;)
It has a battery and stupid paperfeeder.
I'd like to get HP 5550 or the canon 950i. |

I have an HP 7150 and have been very pleased with the quality. Every once in awhile, say once every other month or so, I get a bad print or 2, but generally I've had very good luck with it. For the $150 I paid for it, I am very happy. I love the separate feed for 4x6 paper. That was a very good idea and really handy. The quality is super on good paper. I've been buying Kodak Premium Photo paper at Sam's club for pretty cheap. I also found that I can get ink cheap at ABC warehouse. I don't know if there are any around, but the one in Saginaw takes about $4 off per cartridge. I've done a lot of shopping and these are the best places I've found for this stuff. I need to get a printer to be able to do larger prints. I was thinking about the HP 1220 (Not sure if the model # is right) for a larger printer, but that's down the road aways. Good luck finding a printer. There are quite a few worthy ones out there nowadays and they aren't really that expensive.

I have an HP 7350 that I love! It produces excellent prints on Kodak paper and also has the separate postcard size paper feed. I wanted a printer that could produce larger prints, but I didn't find one I was happy with in a decent price range. So, my compromise was to buy the 7350 for prints up to 8x11, and to send out for larger.

I have an HP 2000C that I bought primarily as a document printer about 3 years ago. After this debacle I won't be buying HP again. The famous expiring ink cartridges (they can refuse to work right out of the box!), and HP's failure to provide proper drivers for XP are just two of the missteps that have soured me on HP.
When it prints, the quality is OK for its day and fast, but oh, the pain!
Sorry for the rant, but for those considering HP, do a litle web research on the 2000C & 2500C and ask "will HP support their product?"
I'm happily looking forward to replacing the HP with an Epson or a Canon, maybe next year, and I will definitely ask the DPC group for opinions. |

| I've got an epson 780. I love the results, particularly on colorlife paper with the correct profiles. Perfect match to the colours on the screen and a much wider gamut compared to the local fuji labs. So my $50 printer gives me better colour saturation for really vivid colourful pictures (although without the same lifetime) |

I have a Canon S820, nothing fancy, just a nice printer that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.
It has 6 color cartriges that retail for about 12 bucks each (already had to buy a replacement round) and the output is very good. Also, as long as you're not using it on the highest quality setting (which you shouldn't... your prints will NOT be any better but you WILL use a lot more ink) it is quite fast.

One other point - I used to use Epson Premium Glossy Photo paper which gives very good results. but I've now started using Ilford Pearl paper. It's about the same weight and as good quality as the Epson glossy, but the satin finish is much nicer and much less reflective. I'd recommend this paper to users of this printer. |

Have you tried colorlife ? It is a satin finish epson paper and gives fantastic results, if you use the right profiles |

I have an HP DeskJet 1220C ... it prints up to 11x17 and i love it ... set paper at premium glossy (using that kind of course :) and viola ... looks like prints :)
the ink carteridges last pretty good too ... i've had the printer almost 9 months and only have replaced the carteridges once (i've prolly just jinxed myself - going to check the ink now - heheh)

Have you tried colorlife ? It is a satin finish epson paper and gives fantastic results, if you use the right profiles |

While we're on the subject, I remember seeing an Epson canvas roll for use with their A3 inkjets. Struck me as kind of cool - has anybody tried printing on a medium like this? |

I've used the canvas sheets you can get from Office Depot. These are letter size canvas sheets and I was really happy with the results - a very different final effect.
I did find that the canvas was a complete PITA to load though - very thick media so it doesn't go through the printer easily and was curved so had an even rougher time.
Once printed I lacquered the print and dry mounted it on backing board and the result is really good with the right subject choice. |

got the new canon S900 a few months ago (used to use Epson Stylus 870), and I'm WAY impressed. 6 individual ink cartridges make for cheaper ink, and according to //www.CNET.com (awesome product review site) it's the fastest and most cost effective in it's range ($250+/-), and sacrifices no quality.

I have an Olympus P400 which is the most annoying piece of equipment I have ever used. It is very picky about the files that it prints (sometimes it just prints nothing at all and wastes $2 worth of printing supplies). It is also slower than snails. The thing frustrated me so much that I threw it out the window. Now I just let the local photo shop print them out. They are a lot cheaper per print and the output is superior from them.

I am Using a Lexmark Z65 (4800 x 1200 dpi) I am very impressed with the speed as well as the quality. I find that Kodak Premium Photo Paper does the job as far as paper goes. I guess it's a bit expensive in terms of cartridges but quality for $ = :-) text

Canon i950, which prints incredible photo-lab quality pictures, but only if you use Canon paper - a bit of a pain, since I already had a bunch of Kodak paper. Other than that, though, it's a great printer - check out the user comments on it over at CNet if you want some backup to that claim.

| I've had my Canon s900 for about 9 months, and it is outstatnding. I use it as my regular day-to-day printer - it's quiet and very fast - and it also cranks out fantastic photos. The media does make a difference - canon papers definitely work the best, though they are a little more spendy and harder to find than other papers. I have used Kodak papers as well (among others) and it takes a little tweaking to get the images just right on those papers. But man, on Canon Photo Paper Pro, wow, just like a photo. Highly Recommended. |

I got a HP 2210. I printed out a photo for the first time yesterday and the image quality is pretty good.
