Not too early for this thread, as the weekend has come to a close, and so also zoo-touring for the average working Joe.

I actually went to an "Animal Sanctuary" with the family. A dedicated group of volunteers mostly run this place to care for injured animals of all sorts while they recover to eventually be released back into the wild. No charge for entry, just a donation if you choose.

Here are a couple of my outtakes. I nearly entered the raccoon shot, but went with another animal. The poor little guy could hardly walk to sniff the finger of its kind caregiver, and it nearly fell out of its shelter & had to be helped back up.

Nobody was around when I went up to the a bear's pen, so I ducked under some fence so I could try to get a shot through the chain-link fence. When it saw me it just wanted to kill me, I guess, and tried to chew its way through the fence. I didn't stick around too long, as the fence didn't look too sturdy.

Well, since neither of these photos looks even remotely like my entry, I feel comfortable posting them:

--ed: Deleted

I realize they both kinda suck. That's why they're out-takes and not entries!

You should be. If your submission is better than your outtakes, you should do well. You're outtakes are really nice!

So, soon after this photo, the giraffe in the back mounted the other giraffe. I missed it with my camera cause it fell off as I was picking up my camera to get the shot:(

Cutter those are awesome! You're entry must be stellar. I really love the "Learning the ropes" shot - it's haunting.

I do not agree with this statement. It used to be that outtake threads did not start till after the voting period. Some of us still think that this is the only fair way of doing things. Just think, you're new here and have a shot that isn't doing very well. People post outtakes that you think are WAY better than your best that you entered. Kinda discouraging don'cha think?

I do agree with you. I jumped on the bandwagon too quickly. Of course, you are right.

I cut it too close and missed the submission deadline by mere seconds.....oh well, I'll give Textures and Wooden a try.

Would love to have comments/critiques on this one: first, as a photo; second, as an entry in the Zoo challenge.

Thanks

Great outtakes, everyone! I have really enjoyed looking at all of these, as well as looking at the challenge entries! Here are some of my outtakes:

These are some kick-a$$ outakes. I would have given the Goats(?) a 10 easily.

Here's mine. The dirty tank killed it and made clean focusing a pain.

Probably. That's a great shot!

I didn't have too many outtakes because I went once and it was so hot none of the animals were out. I only got 2 elephant shots. Then I went back after it rained and did better. Here's my only 2 outtakes besides one or 2 of the same animal I submitted, so I won't show those :)
