So what's the expectation on this challenge? I'm really kind of excited about it because I think I have a really great photo! Too bad it's open: there will probably be another 200 entries by the 19th.

I need the Blue on this one to prove a friend wrong.

He's hyper critical without the artistic stones to back what he says so I'll need to win and quiet him up for EVER!!!

I'm sure my entry will do fine but the open challenges are rough all ways around.

Yeah, we'll get lots of bricks and cracked earth, but I'm hoping for some really good ones. I'm very pleased with mine. With the challenge piggy backing the zoo challenge, we'll probably see some interesting hide and feathers in it as well. Good luck!!!

Mine isn't feathers or skin, or dirt, bricks, wood, etc.... Actually, I'm not expecting a whole lot with my entry, but there *are* a few different (somewhat subtle) textures, and I really like the shot. I'm afraid that if it isn't a rough/gritty texture, it won't fall into favor with many voters. Oh well, I like it. :-)

Liking your photo is more important

Now that I've seen the submissions for Textures III, I'm disappointed to see that at least 1/4 of the photos are not even 'on topic' for the challenge!? I left very low scores along with an explanatory note.

It disturbs me that those same people will in turn vote for any image they like, whether it meets the challenge or not. Kind of undoes the whole point of the 'challenge' :(

Btw, this was my first week on this site and my first challenge entry. Very fun idea :)

I don't think the voters are nearly so simple. They're not all running around marking up every gritty/rough texture.

Mine is not gritty or rough and I'm pulling a record score (for me).

Good to know! Mine isn't doing as well as I had hoped, but then again, I *am* biased towards my entry. :-)

I have seen more pictures that I really like in this challenge compared to other challenges. It is apparent that many people really focused on getting lighting that brought out the details and intricacies of their subjects. I hope this carries forward into future challenges as well.

I have not taken the time to individually comment as there are a large number of entries. So, I hope that each of you appreciate the fine work you did here.

Thanks, for giving me so many beautiful images to judge.

How many of the entries do you 'FEEL' the texture?

The Agony and the Ecstacy
Whew! I just finished my first round of scoring the Texture III challenge. Looking at my top 30 picks, I have to say they represents some of the very best work I have seen at DPC in some time. Congratulations to these fantastic photographers. Wait til you see the rankings; I know you'll be blown away by the top 10, 20 or 30 photos!

The agony ... is at the other end of the scale as always.

Edit: I had previously posted this in the Texture Scores thread but it's probably more appropriate here!
