Okay, I have a fairly large collection of photos that I feel proud of. I have made some contacts and would be able to get into a couple of galleries when I want. I have prints that are matted and framed. Here is my question. I see other photographers have a "bin" of sorts of usually 8x10 photos with cardboard backing, no matting in a plastic sleeve. How is this type of mounting done. I am vaguely familiar with the idea of heat press mounting. Is this what they are doing? Are they using glue to apply the print to the cardboard? Or is the print attached at all? Do you folks do this? How?

In the print shop where I work. We sometimes put a backer like cardboard or foam board behind a print or photo then shrink wrap it. The shrink wrap os crystal clear when done and it holds the print in place with no glue. Just unwrap and everything comes apart if needed.

| in the Gallerage I use backing sheets I get from Blick that are adhesive and press the entire photo onto this using a plain old rolling pin and a protective sheet on top of the photo. |

I just print right on Ilford Gallerie Smooth Pearl Media Board - but them in a box of 10 from ItSupplies.com. I believe they come in just the one size, 11x14, but could be wrong. You need a printer that has a manual feed slot of course, that can handle thicker media.

You can buy sized bags designed for this for a few cents each when bought in bulk. Some places even give them to you free if you buy pre cut mats and/or backing board. Simply place your photo and the backing board in the bag and you are good to go. Id' reccomend mating them as well though.
Attaching the print to a board could cause problems for yourself or the would be buyer.
