this is my current best(not bad for 2nd member challenge either). first member entry came in one away from the brown! Im glad that my skipping 6 challenges didnt do permanet damage(first two entrys back are in the low 4's ) i wish i had kept my big mouth shut about "Summers Textures" and entered it. oh well..i never could keep a good secret to myself ;)

Three voters voting very low without any comment. Voting low is so easy and I really don't care about the low points, I'm used to them, but please be honest and tell me why.
I think I've had it here in the challenges. I'm not a competetive person at all actually, but I thought it would be fun and I would learn at the same time. But I've roamed about the challenge threads for a while and what I read over and over are just power battles, arrogancy and a lot more of that stuff (always exceptions excluded).
Sure, the highest rated photos are technically very good, but that's not the first thing I look for in a photo. I look for creativity, different views etc. etc. and they are there, sure, but not many enough by far to reach my 20% of voting.
I always look for something personal in a photo, a kind of connection with the photographer behind, his/her view, his/her limitations, but they're hard to find through the facades of the obvious, the glamour and the ps tricks.
When I read the post processings sometimes, I really wonder how the original looks like, because in some cases I think I wouldn't even recognize it as the same photo.
Please note: I don't mind you doing all that and I don't mind you fighting for the best place, but it's not my thing, because I simply refuse to turn my photos into something that's not really me 'just to please the voters'.
I think 'll take my beer now and a break for a while. Have to go away for a few days anyway, inspecting rare Drenthen Heathsheep up North and in between catching some trout and salmon in the setting of sun and then I'll sigh and enjoy life and my retirement and maybe come up with a poetic verse like this one I wrote earlier:
Take me back to yesterday or even the days before
to sunshine and to happiness and maybe something more
Today is not my day you know today is dark and gray
and even if you smile at me I won't come out to play
Take me back to yesterday when I was a little child
I could roam the pastures then full of flowers wild
Today is not my day you know for pastures are no more
large buildings placed on land you see wich was green before
Take me back to yesterday when loved ones weren't dead
when I could hear them talking real not only in my head
Today is not my day you know my head is full of voices
constant ordering me around I have to make some choices

and maybe I forget about the gray and dark and sorrow

All the comments are good except one is confusing. It was hovering around 5.9 when I went to bed last night, so in the last 14 hours it has taken a serious plunge with nothiing to tell me why. All the comments left were from the first day. |

I think this is interesting. There have been several threads along the lines of "How can my photo get votes of 1?" and "How can the Blue Ribbon photo get votes of 1?" and "Who are the trolls voting 1 on great photos?"
Here are the stats on my Macro V photo, which is solidly stuck in the middle of a very large pack with very few comments.

What's interesting to me is that it's drawn no 1's and no 2's. No 9's or 10's either. Here's the distribution. Note to DPC regulars, this is reversed from DPC's normal histogram ... 1's are on the bottom.
I find that interesting. Don't know what cosmic significance this reveals, but it's interesting to me. I now know what it feels like to be the quintessential bell shaped curve. |

It's my fault. Screaming tourists beneath the feet of Godzilla could tell you what it feels like to be any photo in this challenge, when put up against mine.

I'm feeling a bit low today, because I had to put down one of my most favorite sheep, a ewe of 9 years old. Reason: I'd lent her (and several others) to somebody who had too much grass and this fellow didn't take good care of them as I found out too late. This old lady was skin over bone when I retrieved the sheep and she just didn't make it.
I'm mad as hell.
Sorry if I've offended anyone, didn't mean to.

Yahoo, I just got the coolest comment ever, I think it's going into my forum signature after the challenge! I think the comment unknowingly discovered the real purpose of my photo! I don't think it's too horrible a thing to put it here for all to see, given the circumstances of my score & all:
"I just don't like anything about it. It just disgusts me. Sorry." bagged commenter.
