...50mm f/1.8. It makes a horrible sound when autofocusing and when manual focusing it feels gritty... I'm sure it's still under warranty. Is this something that's covered? If not, how much do ya think it'll cost to fix it?

hey, i think i had this same exact problem. If this is what I had, it is because the focusing ring was turned alot by me or my other circumstances when the camera was in auto focus. This caused the PLASTIC gears and cogs to snap off and hence making the focusing ring feel gritty when focusing. I sent my lens into Canon Canada and they sent me a new one under Warranty. Thank goodness.

lol...thought i was on an episode of the old gameshow Match Game when i saw this thread topic.

Think I got sand in my _______ and now I can't focus.
