Wendelika.. you might try using a wider fstop to blur the backgrounds a bit it makes the central flower pop out more.Since you have nice reds there it is sometimes fun to make sure you are shooting with a saturated white balance or depending on the time of day you are shooting try a polarizer.

Thanks! My camera told me I was using f 8.0, but it's really old and tired, so maybe not that accurate. I wonder if I could get a polarizer for my camera? Can't change the lens, it's very limiting.

Okay, I get it. I was thinking big numbers, wider aperture. It's been a long time since I spent any real time thinking photography. It's amazing how much you can forget.

Wend actually f 8.0 is alot for flower macros. You might want to try the other end of the spectrum there to see what I mean. For instance this shot was taken with a relatively wide apeture (wide means smaller number). You may not have a screw mount for a polarizer but, you can get one that is larger than your lens and do it anyway though it is a bit clumsier that way. Polarizers make a really big difference when the sun isn't straight overhead though that is when I shoot most of my flower stuff. Have a great one !!!

Here's one I took a while back. Called a Badge Huntsman Spider because of the markings on it's abdomen.

This is about as close to a macro as I can do with my camera, not having a separate lens. Does anyone know which variety of butterfly this caterpillar will be turning into? Just curious. It's a pretty neat looking thing.

This is what happens when a dog is being cute when I have my macro lens on the camera...

It's a White-marked Tussock Moth

See this page and click on the last photo on the bottom row.
Should tell you what you want to know.

WARNING: these caterpillars are stinging caterpillars and should not be handled unless you like itchy, burning rashes that are difficult to get rid of.
See this page for more info (about 1/2way down the page, photo #11).
