Wow! I don't think I've ever seen a challenge with more out of focus images than this one. I'm guessing that some cameras have a less powerful a/f assist, or perhaps the dSLRs have an advantage with faster glass being able to lock-on more consistently?
Either way, it's amazing how many people either didn't notice, or didn't care that huge portions of their images were blurry. There's always a few, but it seemed disproportionately high in the Darkness challenge.

Could well be the photographers just wanted them to look blurry/out of focus to create some mystery in darkness.

That's along the lines that I went. Except it's also a self portrait and it's really hard to get good focus with no one behind the camera :-)

nah i dont buy people wanting an off focus shot...not with the voters here ....:)
