I second this, although I understand that dial-up users might not like the idea too much...

Have you got specific pictures that you've seen that are better at
200k than at 150k ? For the file size we are using we could probably
go down to 100k and not see too many issues.

If you've got something to show otherwise, that would be really helpful..

I would like this a lot. Also, I would like the ability to "sign" your comments with a default so that if you want to leave your name on your comments you don't have to do it manually for all of them.

Chris, I wanted to tell you that I love your "Long and Rinding Road" image. Really great! I've tried leaving a note in the comments section after your picture but it just isn't working right. Very creative thinking.

Thanks Grayce :)

Drew! Wassup with this? I think users shouldn't have problems leaving comments for a picture - especially if the pic is mine! :)

would Zooming in on a pic while voting be possible?
09/29/2002 09:33:22 AM · #56
Can I have two? Pleeze? I would like to have the thumbnail at the top of the voting page for each picture so that I have a little idea of what the picture is as it loads. This would help me tremendously as I vote on this slowdem :-)

The second would be for an option to skip the main voting page with all the thumbnails and go directly to voting where I left off. This would save another 5 minutes in most voting sessions.

Overall - AWESOME SITE. Love it.

You can download this if you want to zoom in / out on images in Internet Explorer. It works in IE6 too.

My biggest desire is free ratio photos which I know is already on the list!

Yeeeeeay!!

My other request:

If you are implementing a rule that means no entry without first voting, I'd like some kind of points system set up - each time you vote (or comment) on a challenge you receive one "entry point" against your account. Each time you enter you have to use one. If you don't have any you can't enter.

This would help greatly. Since I joined I have voted on each challenge, but this week I won't be able to, I don't think so anyway. (Been out most evenings and away since Friday morning, just got back).

I think this would be a fair way of ensuring participation on both sides without stifling entries.

There appears to be quite a split betwen the comment/no comment folks. Can you make it an option in a person's preferences to have the photgrapher's comments show/not show, like is done with your current score. Then folks can do it the way they want.

I would like to see all three winning photos on the home page each week. Maybe 2nd and 3rd could be smaller then 1st.

And I would like to be able to suppress any of the above if I find it repulsive so I don't have to look at it all week.

I would like to be able to search the Photographer's Profiles by location (city, state, country, etc.). It would be neat to see how many DPCers were from a selected geographical location without having to look at each profile individually.

I'd like dimension freedom also (while keeping the filesize limit). It would create endless possibilities with your picture.

This is a great idea. I work on a Mac and the monitor is set to a different gamma than a pc.
So, when I see a photo just right the pc people see it a little darker. And when the pc people photo is just right I see it too light.
While it will never be perfect it is just a step in the correct direction.
We could take it one more step and set up a target web page for people who send photo and sell them a target for mmm... $1.00 – $2.00 (this would be optional).
You could get a company to sponsor the print (free) and it would help keep this site running. They would get the ad (a logo and web site in a small corrner) and sample in front of people who are into digital cameras and you would get the target. This would level the field. (p.s. You would have to send out the target to keep the names and address from a mailing list.)

I would like to see a graphical statistics on my submitted photo like the result table which organized by how many 10's, 9's, 8's and so on. It will be a great asset just to see the real progress of the voting results. I believe this will help many of us.

Thanks

I may have suggested before...put a graph on each members profile page showing their vote distribution, maybe for the last challenge, and a cumulative average. That would give a much better idea of the person's voting patterns than just their average vote, without revealing their vote on any individual photo.

No specific examples. I withdraw my suggestion.

Being a Westcoaster, I start voting Sunday night and having a slow modem it's hard work. So, how about fortifiying us poor voters with some nice hors d'oeuvres. Nothing special, mind you. Just some smoked salmon canapés, some shrimps sautéed in olive oil with lots of garlic and herbs, maybe some carpaccio, maybe a little cheese platter with Morbier (my favorite), Stilton, Brie, some baguette. Maybe a nice glass of Chablis or two. After that, it will be a piece of cake to vote on 250 pictures. Would be so mellowed out, I would give 8,9,10s by the boat load.

Alternatively, what would be nice too if one can override the default pictures shown under one's profile. Right now it shows the 4 pictures with the highest ratings. They may not necessarily be the person's favorites.

Also, it would be nice if one can override the picture shown on the Home Page for another one from the Challenge Week in question. It would be nice, for instance, if the Winning picture shows 3 days total, the 2nd place 2 days, and the 3 place 2 days. If one's favorites of the challenge does not include any of the three ribbons, it would be nice if one could specify which picture from the challenge one would like to see featured on one's Home Page for a week. (PS no offense to amonteforte, I love his Huestaca mountains and happily look at it all week!).

It would be nice if you could select which picture was below your name on forum posts too. I mean, shouldn't we be able to associate our name with our best work, instead of merely our most recent??

P.S. I'm mostly posting this just so I can see my name along with my best work below it :)

I like to change the rule of the date that a photograph enters a contest to any date, not the week of contest. Just have a contest theme and make sure the photograph is digital.

I disagree with this suggestion. Allowing long-time photographers with large portfolios of work to compete against those just starting is simply not a level playing field.

I agree....... keep the photo editing minimal.

I would like to be able to SKIP photos when voting. When time is limited and you can't go through the entire bunch, it would be nice to vote on a select few. The current system of having one after another pop us does not appeal to me. If I vote on 20% of the entries, I would like to be able to pick and choose my 20%. Thanks for a good job on most everything!

I agree with jakking on this one... I think this would change the point of this site from a challenge on taking photos to a contest about who has the better portfolio. (And I'm speaking as someone who has photos sitting at home which I'd LOVE to have been able to enter in some of these challenges!)
