No need for apologies thomaspeople, I'm sure we've all done that. My first submission was terrible and was shot about 15 mins before the deadline (not saying that any of my other shots were any more planned out, that's very evident). I like to think that the purpose of this site is to learn from your mistakes and to become a better photographer, hopefully while having fun in the process.

OUCH.

The Evil Ones are voting now. My score has been dropping. I knew I shouldn't have taken the time to eat dinner. It dropped .105 while I was gone.

Getting near that time to turn my scores off for awhile.

ps. Of course, I know I won't :)

Ughh! who just passed through?? I dropped 1 whole point in just 4 hours! Be nice people! I was nice to yours! :D

I here ya! - mine has dropped 2+ (that's whole points people!) in the last 24 hours and my comments have about stopped around 15. Yet, I have 3 favorites and 1 wish list? Can that be right? Who's giving out the charity points, eh? So far it's "technically good" but I'm not sure anyone but 3 people actually like it for it's art content.

BUT that's ok, I like being here and seeing everyone else great pics!

Same here, Nightshy. All of my comments are good, only one contains even a constructive suggestion (though it's ridiculous heheeee) and still the score falls by the hour. I am really starting to think this challenge will end with every single entry at 5.0000.

:D Would be an interesting problem for SC!

How's everyone doing? Mine's been on a bit of a roller-coaster ride 5.5, 5.1, 5.6 and then slid back down to 5.5 again. Let's just hope it stays put for a while.

Any sixes (or dare I ask, sevens?) out there?

In this challenge...a 5.5 might take home a ribbon!

Slowly rising from initial 4.8, from the comments its a 50/50 split some can see the decision in progress others are blind to it.

Mine too: 4.6 :( and descending
06/03/2005 07:24:26 AM · #236
I dropped from a 4.7 to a 4.5 overnight. Very sad about that. I did get some good constructive comments though, so that cheered me up a bit.

Some people love mine and think it meets the challenge. Getting 7s, 8s and 9s.

Some people don't think it meets the challenge and they're voting 1s, 2s, 3s and 4s.

Sitting at...

This could be the lowest scoring challenge ever by the looks of things! One of you ribbon-hogs post your score, then we'll know the benchmark ;)

I'm sure his intention was not to hurt anyone, rather to simplify his commenting process. I bet he was only trying to give everyone a comment because he thought they all deserved something for trying to enter the contest and he could not think of over 100 unique things to say about why the photo didn't score better. I'm sure he also wants to apoligize for making people feel like he didn't even look at the photo, when I'm positive he spent lots of time reviewing each one for some reason to give it a better score.

I think the problem a lot of people had with this persons comment was the fact that up until his/her comment, all had been positive. This gave way to the opinion that the person did not look at the photos and just 'bulk commented.'

I guess he's just a very tough critic.

I won't mention any names but I just discovered another person who made similar (bulk) comments in one of the earlier challenges. The difference is that they were positive and no one complained. Kind of verifies your point..

with a lot of luck this might just make it over 5, but not very probable at this stage.

I'm not sure what score is good and what is bad because this is by first contest.

Is that good or bad

I'm a bit biased Northrop4, but I'm pretty pleased with your first entry.

Keep shooting!

EDIT: Northrop4 is my soon-to-be 13 year-old son.
(teenage years, here we come!).

Well, I seem to be stuck on about 4.56 for the past two days. Looks like that's about where I'll end up.

Not too bad for a newbie entry that I didn't think would get even a 4. :)
06/03/2005 03:15:20 PM · #249
Northrop 4, you go!!!!!!!! I wish I knew which picture it was, I'd give it a 10. I have all the respect in the world for a 13 year old who knows his way around photography enough to get in these challenges!!! 3 is right: Keep shooting, and can't wait to see which one is yours when we're all done :)
