Thanks to the person who requested a dq on my photo!! Since its validation it's on a slow climb upward -- if you could help me out by requesting an early dq for each contest I'd appreciate it :)

OK.

i am in the camp that any comment is a "good" comment (with a few exceptions). even if it's a comment you don't agree with, at least the individual is giving you a REASON why they are scoring your photo as they did. to me, that's better than getting a 1 and no comment at all.

that being said, the SC has checked out some of the comments mentioned in this thread. we have not found any abuse of the voting system. while some of the comments are similar, many of them continue on with more details that are relatively unique and -- dare i say it -- helpful, even if they are not what you want to hear.

i do not think it is fair to users to bring up specific comments in forums while voting continues. it does nothing but discourage others from commenting in the future, and that helps no one.

by entering a challenge here, you've essentially put your photo on display for worldwide critique. opinions are GOING to vary on almost every image. if you really do not want to hear what others have to say about your image, you're best to not enter in the first place.

please lay off the specific comment complaints. it's not fair and not helpful.

Happy with the amount of comments I've received as well :) Most of which have been very helpful.

I don't think much has been said about scores and the repetitive comment that has surfaced, it's about the comment basically stating the photo, in the "commenters" opinion, doesn't meet the challenge. No scores posted with the comments that I'm aware of.

Of course it's not abusing the voting system - everyone is talking about the comments and the handy 'cut & paste' method of distribution. That was only an issue with the 'Commenters Invitational'.

Opinions are also going to come to surface in forum threads such as this one. I don't think many have a problem with receiving comments, many perceive comments as a bonus to entering challenges - but not when it's a 'cut & paste' comment. Perhaps the "commenter" would be better off not commenting if he/she feels the same way about so many images?

??? How so ??? Nobody has mentioned the commenters identity have they?

"I don't feel that the image conveys instantly recognizable decision. However it is a decent photo."

I got the same cheesy comment from the little _ _ _ _ _

You know what, he's making an effort to comment. The comments are NOT all the same and resorting to name calling (even if it IS only suggested) is not appropriate! No wonder people don't comment anymore. What a shame.

I'm beginning to feel sorry for the little _ _ _ _ _, especially given the distinct possibility that the little _ _ _ _ _ had taken the time to actually paste in that first sentence, and then add in a second to boot.

PS I'm not the little _ _ _ _ _, but would be able to offer the little _ _ _ _ _ some support should he or she feel like it. If the little _ _ _ _ _ has prints for sale, I'd be glad to buy one. Let me know.

PPS Sheesh...

I don't think there's much wrong with copying and pasting an eloquent way of saying that the entries don't meet the challenge! It's easier than typing it out each time, and to be quite honest it's probably better than doing what I did, which was to merely rate the image low (although if it was a technically sharp image but it didn't meet the challenge I'd leave an in depth comment).

I think the so-called little _____ is thoughtful on a pragmatic level! Don't victimize the guy because your entry is doing badly, and he happened to be the only one thoughtful enough to tell you why.

It's interesting how everyone knows the identity of the 'accused', but no-one is allowed to say his name. Madness!

EDIT:

There're some really great images in this challenge. I think it's time everyone got over the negativity and focused on some of the really great photos that have come out of all this! To pull off a succesful image in the decisions challenge is no mean feat. Most people didn't even attempt it as it IS difficult. Appealing to voters isn't easy in this one! The images I've rated highly are all borderline to meet the challenge, but I took a little while to think about 'em and conceptually they're just right!

There's also one clear brown ribbon attempt. Good luck to whoever posted that ;)

Alex.

As posted previously, this commnetor at least took the time to register the opinion, even if it was the same opinion for many of you (sorry, I did not get this comment, I didn't enter). The commentor also took the time to append additional specific comments. And you're all complaining. I respectfully but strongly suggest that this dead horse be left to the flies, and the thread get back to other topics.

Don't blame me I tried to change the topic.

Jimmys touching me again.

I didn't do it.

Stop it Rex. Take your pill and get out of that adults-only chat room.

I've rec'd a fair share of comments for the current challenges and not all of them are complimentary but at least they are constructive.

To tell so many people that their image basically doesn't meet the challenge is going to raise some emotion. The majority (yes there will be a few that don't) of people submitting to a challenge have 'met the challenge' or at least thought they did in their own perspective.

Yes, calling names is perhaps going a step too far (although many names good or bad could fill the five blank letter spaces) - but I can definitely see where many have the right to express their opinion against this type of comment.

The score makes me sad, but the fact that someone picked my picture as a favorite makes entering this challange worth it.

I think this is the first time I've ever seen a thread like this without anybody posting a 6+ score.
