With the ever increasing number of entries (which is good!), it is taking longer and longer to download (which is bad) and vote. It is killing us on dial-up. Just to download the thumbnails for this weeks challenge was 2.7 Megabytes!! Then over 100K per photo times 200+ photos is another 20 -30 Megabytes. The downloads alone take about 3 hours per week.

I don't know what the solution is for dial-up users, maybe we are in the minority. Can we do a poll to see what the ratio is?

maybe there could be a way to have the photos in groups? like each page hold 50 images, that might help those that dial up.

i like having it on one page (dsl is niice) but i can totally understand how slow it must be for dialup.

I use my bosses time and vote whilst in work, I'd never be able to accomplish all the voting in a week via the dial-up at home. I guess there will be a time soon when I'll have to stop voting on all images.

Hey all,

You'll be happy to know that among the new customizations coming in the new version of DPChallenge is the ability to set the number of thumbnails per page.

In the meantime, please note that you do not need to wait for the thumbs page to load fully in order to begin voting.... just click on the title of the first picture.

Also, while we ask that everyone try to vote on all the entries, we understand that for various reasons that isn't always possible. Just be sure to vote on at least 20% so your vote gets counted. Also, if you intend to vote on less than 100%, please try to go in order rather than picking and choosing from the thumbnails. This is fairer, to the great photographs that don't look good in thumbnail (keep in mind the thumbnails are server-generated and out of the control of the artist).

The only problem I have with this is that it seems to me that the pictures on the voting page are displayed the same way for everyone. So if we all vote for only the pictures on the top only those pictures will get voted. I also believe that when you vote on a picture the next picture that pops up is always the same one.

no. that's incorrect.

they are in a different, random order for each individual.

I only use the internet at work through boredom. ;-)

If I was given enough work in the first place to keep my mind active I wouldn't have to find other things to keep me busy.

The entries are displayed in a random order. Each voter sees the entries in a different order. This is done for exactly the reasons you mentioned.
