...to start a post like this one. ;^)
With only one comment on my Silhouette entry I'm left wondering what didn't connect with this photo.
I've entered 47 challenges so far and usually know the potential negatives of an image going in. On this one I REALLY liked it, so much that I'm having it framed (which I rarely do). The potential negative I saw was the red fringe where the light came thru the edges of the flowers...but that had potential positive as well I thought.
...so, any feedback (good or bad) would be most appreciated. Thanks! ;^)

I think to me the sky is too dark a background. At the bottom of the photo you have this glorious glow from the sun, but the top of the picture is very dark so the silhouettes don't stand out.

I didn't vote on this challenge but if I did, a average of 5 seems about
right to me.
IMHO, I think it would have been better if your sunlight came from the
top corner instead of the bottom corner.
By no means am I tring to imply that this is a bad shot, I just think it
could have been better. |

I'm ok with your composition, but I think the problem comes from not having enough contrast between the silhouette and the background. On my screen the flowers look almost like a muted dark brown rather than a crisp black. The sky as a backdrop doesn't have enough brightness to make them stand out. Some play with curves and sharpening might enhance things a bit...

I think cghubbell may have hit it on the button....his screen.
It looks fine.
Photography, art in general, is so subjective.
Run with your first impression. Frame the darn thing.

Thanks everybody...your comments are very helpful. The reason for the sun being in the lower left corner is I had to lay flat on my back to get this shot with a clear sky (no trees) in the background.
For anyone curious - this is the original. Unedited (resized only for posting). Almost entered as is where more detail is visible without the added contrast to darken the flowers and stems...

Thanks Matthew/legalbeagle for taking the time for such an in-depth comment on this photo. VERY much appreciated!
I failed to mention I did use a ND grad (grey) filter to add some contrast to the sky...
