I am guessing many of the voters are voting down on the ones that the light is not the subject?....because i have 3 comments, 2 of which gave me 10's and the other stating I have a strong entry...

I solemnly believe that mine will climb again, but right now I'll echo Pano's sentiment... after twenty votes I was at 6.5 (where I hoped things would stay) I'm now at 5.8 and pretty disappointed!

Oh well... Just earlier today I said that I'd never been robbed, if my shot keeps falling at this rate I might just change that sentiment :).

That might be it.... I have two comemnt's one of which was a ten, the other was resoundingly positive.

I hope you are right - it's always easy to put a lower score than you'd hoped for down to narrow challenge interpretation than it is to come out and say "my photo just isn't as good as I thought it was :)"!

I'm beginning to wonder if mine is too "controversial" and is getting voted down for subject matter.... I just got a 3 and I know it don't deserve that...

mine has had some interesting ups and downs. I think people either really love it or really hate it.

It is so funny that it is doing better than anything else I have entered on DPC because I took it in the last 30 minutes before it closed last night just to enter something and I honestly don't really like it! lol

will be interesting....

I know what you mean. I though all week about what kind of picture to take but ended up taking my yesterday about 5 hours before deadline. I didn't think it would do that great because it is so simple, but like I say in my profile I'm going back to the basics. And as long as it stays above my average I will be happy. :)

"Use lighting in a creative fashion this week so that the lighting itself is a key."

I took this to mean use the light as if it were key to the capture, in other words not just any old lighting would do. There had to be some intent of use by the photographer. Creative fashion, means to me that it helped sculpture the photograph, any other moment, in time, the photograph would be different.

yes but you can also get "regular" light and change it with shuterspeed, ISO, white balence, etc...

I agree, using Apature, ISO, white balance, post-processing is the phtographer manipulating how the light is used in a capture, but alas, it needs to be seen to be key, that is what I mean.

I have viewed all the light submissions and I must say I am somewhat disappointed. Maybe it is my interpretation of the challenge, but I see a lot of nice photos that could be taken any time and not necessarily photos that use light as an integral part of the photo.

Also I see a lot of shots that obviously have been processed to produce the light effect. I am unsure of these...

Voting will be tough.

comments are: 2 = beautiful photos 1 = colors do not look real.
"they are" practically right out of camera; all in all VERY disappointed with score.

I know the feeling,,I guess there are many different ways I could have done mine,,but oh well all in all I personaly still like my pic I may try to add a touch more lighting for more of an effect but sometimes that just takes away from the mood and quite honestly you cant ever fully satisfy everyone. Oh well!!

For my entry, there seems to be a strange disparity between comments, favorites and scoring. My comments have been encouraging and to have two favorites make this all worth while, yet for every 10 I get the score continues to drop. I was hoping for 7ish on this one, ah well. Overall I feel that I am improving and shooting for this has been a great deal of fun. I am well satisfied with the outcome. I am looking forward to seeing my curve on this one.

I was DQ-ed!!!!!!

so... not... cool. I do not feel I broke the rules.
05/23/2005 04:34:38 PM · #50
My first challenge. My scores have been surfing between 4.2 and 4.4.... up down up down.....
At one point I was thinking of putting DPC ers out of their misery and taking up patchwork instead :)
Anyway, I got three very constructive comments on my image(thank you guys), which are far more valuable than whatever the score is. After all I am here to learn and improve to the best of my ability..
I just wish people could leave more comments on why they scored the way they did, even if the comments were harsh it would help a great deal more in the end..
