i have been with shutterstock, dreamstime, bigstock and canstock stock photo agencies for about a year now. my total earnings are almost at the $2000 mark and i now steadily make anywhere from $250 to $350 a month..
this has been really great for me since the income i make enabled me to spend some extra cash on my photography hobby. i would advise anyone who are willing to go with istockphoto to be very carefull. they run that site like gestapo and people get banned for silly reasons left and right.
here are the links to stock photo agencies where you can sign up to sell your photos if you like

Generally speaking you can. Dreamstime have special assignments for which they require exclusive pictures, and iStock have bonuses for exclusivity - requiring the photographer to be exclusive to iStock (ie they cannot contribute anything to other sites). Aside from that, this kind of site generally allows one to post the same pictures anywhere. I have some photos at all of iStock, Shutterstock and Dreamstime. Interestingly photos that are my best sellers at one don't do well at others.

Still trying to figure out if I want to sell my soul and try to earn that 20D this way.

What are you talking about, Mehmet? Did iStockphoto ban you for something or do you know someone who had trouble with them? I've had nothing but good experiences with them, but all I do is upload images and answer the occasional forum question on stock sites.

istock banned me and several other stock photographers i know for unjust reasons(i guess it is just for them).. and with no pre warning whatsoever. and they keep the money you have made unless you were lucky and cashed out just before. i would warn anybody who contributes to their forum to absolutely avoid talking in any critisicising manner. unless if you wanna get banned...

Ah, I see. I guess it's good that I only really participate in the DPC forums :-)

Get legal advice. Unless their terms and conditions specify that they have the right to keep your earnings should they remove you from their site, I would be surprised if they are permitted to do so and you may have grounds to insist on payment. I'm not a lawyer but I would see what you can find out.

So what kind of photos are generating such interest? Product shots, shots of good looking people, beautiful landscapes? What re your best sellers?

Also, how many images have you available online now for stock?

business oriented images and unbeat people shots are probably th ebest sellers...

I have a question for mehmet or melissa or any other person who does people shots as stock photos... who do you guys get to pose for you? Do you pay them? Do you tell them you will be selling the photos on these sites specifically?

I want to do people shots but my family is less that cooperative :-) I best bet is usually my brother but he works in another city and I am in school most of the time. I would feel akward asking my friends to sign model releases for me to sell photos of them...

higher-ups from istockphoto and shutterstock have been whining about each other in their respective forums. i find it ridiculous.

Thank you for your comments (and reviews) of the agencies - I hope to expand my stock portfolio more this summer. I currently just upload shots that have been taken for other purposes that might also work for stock (although I have yet to make much money on there - only at about $15 right now... possibly because I have fewer than 30 photos on there and had even fewer for a long time). My girlfriend sounds very willing to do some photo shoots with me - so maybe I'll have to get her dressed up in her 'business' garb and get her to shake my hand or something ;). Thanks for the tips.
