Skip, I'm serious, you should think about supplementing your budding photography business with writing too.

I have absolutely zero interest in NASCAR but I was riveted by your account. Well written with great structure, great building of excitement and just the right detail!

AND I'm thrilled for you too!

Great pictures too!

Fine, fine story Skip! It brings back memories of when I got tabbed to shoot the SD Chargers for a season back in the Don Coryell/Dan Fouts days. It turned into two seasons, and was one of the fun highlights of my career. The mental process I went through in the beginning was JUST like the one you describe, including the need to overcome self-doubt brought on by the "arsenals" the big guys and their assitants were lugging around...

Thanks for this terrific post!

Ya know Skip, I rarely have time to sit down and EVER read anything this lengthy, web or otherwise, but you sir, managed to put together a wonderful account of your experiences here, and give you a standing ovation for taking the time to put this together and share it with us.

Thank You.

Thanks for sharing your story. A very interesting read, and I think we can all apply it to whatever events we'd love to have the "inside scoop" on!

Your energy, enthusiasm and positive energy always amaze me Skip. Great work. So, do you type 80 wpm as another talent, too? lol

First off, congrats to you Skip, heartfelt.

And secondly, before I had finished reading your post, I had decided to suggest that you try to publish this story! You are indeed a gifted writer as well as photographer. Might your weekly newspaper be interested? Or what about a photo mag? It's that good IMO.
When I finished reading your post, though, I saw that others had already recognized how good it is and made "my" suggestions. Well then, just let me second all the others' sentiments. Best of luck, my friend - as if you need it. You've made your own luck, and deserve every bit of future success you may enjoy. And you're right, that pit shot really is THE shot. Great job.

amazing. If you can do that good on your first weekend, I can't imagine whats next. I had a chance a few months ago to take my camera to pit road for a busch race, It was SO awesome. I totally ate up your story. I thought it would be so neat to try it from the press angle.

What a great read. It's very well written, the one thing that I can't really do.

I'm glad you had a blast and most importantly, that you got your shots. As long as you can fullfill what your editor wants, you have a great chance of shooting it again.

Great job!

I think anytime someone posts a note on the forums asking, "How do I get myself published?" Or, "How do I market myself?" they should read this story. You've done a great job of taking a Picture of the Day award and parlaying it into a rewarding job!

Your experience reminds me a lot of my own work at Steelers games, especially while worrying about having inadequate equipment, etc.!

Congrats on your success here -- I'm sure it'll continue to lead to more exciting experiences for you!
