I have a cheap concord camera and spent a day at Edinburgh castle recently. I took this picture before I left and people have commented on how lovely it is. However, I'd love someone to critique this for me if possible and maybe I can go back with your ideas and try it again! Thanks in advance (",)

That's in the little chaple isn't it?

You've taken a good view point for this image. The focus on the stained glass seems to be a little soft. This is a hard lighting situation. The left side of the image is well exposed however the right side appears to be too much in shadow.

yes it is! I spent a good few minutes trying to find a decent shot of it. For a change, there was penty of sun, which is not normal for scotland. Any ideas on how to sort out the areas you've mentioned? bearing in mind the camera I have lol I might go back and take a shot when there's not so much sun....

Maybe standing a little more to the left so any flash will expose the right hand wall better without overexposing the window. That's the tough part as in your current image it seems to be exposed properly.

It's hard in there as space is very limited and if I remember correctly that window is at the back of the chaple near the door so you'll have to be creative trying different viewpoints.

thanks for that. It was really hard not to get a person in the pic too, there were so many people out and about that day and some of them were pretty slow in moving! I just love the colours though. I wanted to take more than one pic but as it was so busy, I didn't want to annoy too many people.

I know what you mean about the crowds. The whole castle area is wonderful though. Isn't it funny how there's always too many damn tourists in the way. ;oP

lol yeah I really felt like one that day though. Don't think I've ever taken as many photo's as I did that day! I took loads of snapshots but I was only happy with a couple in the end.

Stained glass can be fun to take pics of...but I don't usually like the subject matter they're made in.
