Hey anyone not using it? and why not?
For those that do, what is your favorite Hack feature?

Mine is the ability to shoot RAW and small JPEG and the SET button feature.

i have it, but have not instelled it (yet). I keep saying yet. That implies i will...have the camera since january 05, 1400 shots...I know people who use it without issue. I just have not needed any of the features (yet). I would use mirror lock up i think, and almost certainly flash exposure compensation. Only had my Metz 54 for a few weeks, and in ettl it works just about perfectly, so i have no need to FEC. I might be able to progam that into the flash itself anyway...

I don't use it either...

I have used it since the day I bought my Rebel. I use the mirror lock-up, FEC, programmed set button, RAW in sports mode, and set to record in RAW + small jpeg. Everyone should use it...there's no reason not to. I am about to buy a 20D, though.

I don't use it. I don't think I need most of the features. I'd like to be able to shoot higher ISO, but what good is it, when 800 and 1600 already stink.

I have it somewhere on my computer, and thinking about installing it since my warranty with Canon is up.

Compared to the new models, yes. Compared to a P&S - ha.

I dont use it, no need to.

I dont use it. The feature set offered is of little use to me. Still, once the regular warranty runs out in about 5 months I may very well try it. I'm not afraid of it, just not excited enought about it to risk voiding my warranty.

I don't use it...unless you can select AI servo or whatever, then I just don't see any use -- that's is seriously my biggest (and only) gripe about my 300d.

Neither do I and I have it on mine. It's been awhile, so I can't remember how I did it. Are we supposed to need one? If so, I may have found some program that copied it to the CF while in the camera and connected via USB. Wish I had a link for you.

You have the same favorites as I do, Tom. The set button, the small jpeg during RA.. and I would have to say the mirror lock-up has come in handy many times as well - although it sucks when I forget to change it back and miss one of those fleeting moment shots because of it!

I have used it without issue. I prefer the options available.

If you look at Canon's how up download firmware site, you can do it with the supplied cable directly to the camera. You don't need a card reader.

Just do an internet search on Digital Rebel Hack or Waisia Hack.
It allow several turned off features on your DR, e.g. SET button function, MLU, FEC, Auto focus selection, ISO 3200 and a few more.

THere is a yahoo group Canon Digicam Hacking that has the Wasia and Undutchables, directions, discussions and more.

As for warranty - several people have sent their rebels in with teh hack installed and had no problems. some came back with the canon firmware reinstalled, some with the hack still in place.

I don't use it. Doesn't that do something to the warranty? Don't think I need it.
05/11/2005 01:46:19 PM · #24
I am waiting until my one year warranty with Canon is over, which is coming up pretty quick...

Once that is done... I shall download, install and play around with the new features.

Technically, it voids the warranty. However, many have said that they have turned it into Canon with the Hack for service without any problems. You can also reinstall the Canon firmware before sending it in for repairs. I read on a forum that they changed the settings of the hack and returned it to a guy, just for fun I guess, or maybe they were checking out the hack.
As for whether you need it or not is upto the individual. I've the last waisia version and it's has never caused any problem. I wish for a real SE focus feature, but I really like the RAW + small JPEG to have room on my CF card, using the SET button to review my shots, and being able to delete the picture from a preview faster (no switching from cancel to delete), the FEC, once in a while I use the OS focus if I have one focal distance I'm interested in, and the ISO 3200 (although I rarely ever use it, better to have and not need than to not have and need). I haven't used the 1/2 EV or the MLU feature yet
