I am starting this thread before "dreams" goes to voting. I did not want to do the challenge but I forced myself to come up with an idea.

Basically I think allot of people have a fear or bad dreams of drowning. So I wanted to portray that. Also I was thinking of a "torture" idea. My original idea was to be strapped to a chair with duct tape on my arms and have a "water cooler" plastic jug on my head full of water. I would have had a single lit light source from overhead...and possibly some tubing going in and out (I would have to breath some how after all.) I quickly scratched this idea and thought I might be able to to the shot inverted with the "jug" on the ground and me upside down.

Then I came up with this other idea. Why not stick my head in their and have fish swimming around. Yeah thats the ticket. Well at 9PM MST (11AM EST), I put my plan into motion. First I crawled into the shower and duct taped and shoved wash clothes near the opening around my neck to holder water. Let me tell you....a shower nozzle squirting water on yah in such a closed space drove me nuts. Don't worry I didn't do it alone...I had set the camera up on a tri pod and had singsunshine focus the shot. I could never stay in their long enough to even get the water level half way up. And it was totally creepy.

Then I tried my inverted idea with 2 beta fish. I sat on the end of my bed and tipped my head back and shoved my head under. The water in my ear drums drove me nuts..and water seeped into my nostrils (ewww). Singsunshine pushed the shutter I dunno how many times. I couldn't hear a word she was saying. We then stuck the beta's in. And kept trying shot after shot. It was 9:45PM MSTand I knew I wouldn't enter the challenge. We cleaned everything up. And I wanted to see what the shots looked like to include them in this thread of outtakes. I was trying to transfer the files and in inadvertently deleted the whole series of shots (25 pics). Nothing was recovered. Never even got to see a glimpse of any of them :(.

Why is this in rant section? Well just letting people know that I am a weirdo and please watch out on what the challenges are I am liable to burn my house down.

If you use recovery software you can probably get the images back -- just don't write any more data to the card.

We do not encourage drowning oneself for the purpose of winning a virtual ribbon -- glad you escaped! You should read some of Harry Houdini's books before you go trying anything like that again ...

Yeah I am hoping we don't have a fear challenge...I will pour honey on my head and let ants feast.

Actually I have had a digital image in my mind for about 3 years.....I have a bad fear or have thought of a bad fear of a spider laying eggs in my ear. I froze some black widows and was so tempted to stick one in my ear and take a picture. Just never got up the courage.

LOL well I have several I mean several of these same hair brain schemes on every challenge. I see them so clearly in my mind of what I want. I just can never get them to match up.

The worse part was losing the files until I recovered them. Also my head was so crammed into the plastic jug my nose was smooshed. You can see how red my eyes were getting.

I guess I am trying to make up for lack of talent by going the "extra mile"

sounds like theme for a new challenge:
"How far would DustDevil go"- Shoot what you think is the limit dustdevil would go to win a virtual ribbon.

Glad you made it out ok, I was totally confused while reading about how you would get your head into a water cooler bottle. You are not a force to be reckoned with.

The first sentence of your profile says it all!
(lol just joking!! My father and both brothers were also Marines...one of them retired with 20+ years.)

No joke...picked this up in the newswires a few days ago. A guy went to the doctor cause he was having itchy ears, scratched inside using a series of implements, managed to scratch too hard on something that started bleeding and getting infected. Doctor found maggots around his ear drum. Apparently a fly got in there and laid some eggs while the guy was catatonic one day. Lesson of the day: Don't fall asleep inside a garbage dumpster, or something like that where flies congregate.

Well let me tell you....no one here wants to see my outtakes from "outside looking in". Thank god simple shapes like triangles can't hurt me. For "late night" I was hoping to get some lightning. Just never worked out. It was either that or getting a bug zapper and seeing if I could recreate some =)

I really like the creativity being evidenced here. I'm sincerely impressed by your willingness to sacrifice limbs and go where few would dare to get a shot or two, or 25. Maybe in the future, tell someone else what you're thinking about, though, and let that contact tell you if it's a safe bet or not :) I'll volunteer to be that sort of a screen for a month, if you like.

Sure I currently do not have anything right now for the "5" or the "outside looking in". My "late night" idea was a pretty good one. I have an old slide projector. My grandparents gave it to me and they have mostly shots of myself at a young age. I was going to drive to a parking lot with a nice wall. Sit in a chair and turn the projector on the wall and use a slow shutter speed to hopefully capture it. I also had an idea for doing shadow puppets based off the same thing. I was going to make a shape of a camera. Stick it in the light to get the shadow on the wall then remove it and put my hands and make it look like my hands did it. It never worked out either.

Also I was going to get my kids to fight it out with lightsabers at the park. Thoose didn't turn out to bad but they didn't like being in the grass witht he sprinklers on.

I contemplated taking a can of petrol, going to the lawn, tracing out a five using the petrol on a patch of grass, and when the light is right, light it and take as many shots as I can. If the first patch fails to yield a good shot, I'd move to a different patch and go through it all over again. What do you reckon?

Well actually I thought of something simular...I just rototilled my lawn and going to plant grass seeds. But I was going to leave a 5 and then just dirt and climb on my roof. The grass I had just didn't look right. But onto the fire. I was going to get lighter fluid and a mirror and do 5/5/2005 and set it on fire. I hadn't had a chance to try it so I dunno if it would have worked or not.
