Hi,

What do you all think of purchasing a $40 2-yr extended warranty on a new digital camera.

With most stores if you don't get the EW then you have to deal directly with the manufacturer with regards to warranty service. Whereas with extended warranties, stores offer to do that dealing for you and some even offer over the counter exchange for any problem you encounter within the warranty period (sometimes after a couple of repair attempts for the same problem).

Each warranty is different so ask about the things that are important to you to see if the warranty is worth the money.

I think I've heard that some extended warranties cover dropping and water damage, whereas manufacturers warranties generally will not cover that.

I know Best But does not cover user abuse anymore.

Also, always remember that the stores offer extended warranties because they make money off them. They are not doing you a favor or looking out for your best interest.

And, at Best Buy where the sales reps do not get commission, they do make a commission off selling you that warranty, which is why they push it on you and try to make you afraid not to buy it.

In most cases I would not get the warranty. Especialy on a camera that you will probably replace in 2 years anyway.

jr.com sells "Repair Master" RMD 2500 extended warranty for $40.

Anybody know if that one worth the paper its printed on?
