As a result of the comments I received, I was able to improve on the image I entered substantially or so I believe. What I learned will make all my future pictures better. If you reworked your entry to this, or another, challenge, based on the comments you received, I would like to see what you learned.

Nice improvements! I like that you're trying to learn from every photo you enter (which is the reason DPC was created).

I re-edited my submission afer constructive comments
I agreed with the two commenters who suggested the submission should be in landscape format and have re-edited.

i learned that those who commented liked my image, and those who didn't comment didn't like it, and that those without a camera didn't like it and probably didn't comment

i'm thrilled with the shot from a technical standpoint. i was doing a reverse pan (like swinging a tennis racket at an on-coming ball) at a car going about 100 mph. try that some time...

I was largely dissapointed with the challenge overall. Not because of my entry or score but because I thought a truly Minimalist Challenge would have been more interesting and have produced far more intersting images than what it became due to the rules. The "keep the main subject small" guideline....and this is only my opinion, hurt things quite a bit.
I stopped voting at around 64%. I love voting and was so completely uninspired that I couldn't make it through.
So what I have learned is, that those guidlines drive the challenge like an iron fist, both in the voting and the designs people place on their entries. There are always exceptions and room for truly superior ideas done extemely well, of course and there were some great images in the challenge.
What I've really learned, is that DPC is as much a photo site, as it is a fantastic study in Sociology.

Thanks all for your record number of views and votes. And my highest percentile finish as well. I now have some new personal bests. This in itself, makes me very happy. Lots of nice comments too. Thanks All!

From the comments I got, I learned that:
66% of commenters do not like a corny title.
33% of commenters like a corny title.
"Repelling Comando Death Squad from HECK!"
Nevertheless, corn is too large a part of my personality to let it go. My wife likes my corniness, and that's the only reason I can come up with that she married me, certainly not for looks or money.

I learned to slow down and take my time composing the shot...oh and thanks to someone....I learned that here is not the place to voice my patriotism (althoght that was not my intent). Wonder how many points was knocked down because someone didn't agree with the content.

I learned that the logarithm works. I ended up with 28 less votes then I had when I went to bed late last night, and my score went from 6.0287 to 6.078.

Worldwide site - what is patriotism to you is the exact opposite to others.
As to the challenge...i had the best score i ever got, the most comments ever and nearly the best finish ever, percentage wise.
Therefore i declare my style, my specialty, must be minimalism!
I am depressed...based on my average and expereince here, i got nowhere to go but down now.

Mine jumped from 6.05.. to 6.11 when the final calcualtions were done. I was at 5.99 at vote 60...the normal rise i see from one end of a challenge to another.

some like processing , some don't
some like contrast, some don't
some want to change the vision, some like it as is
some people like to see people inthe image (??) & the chair had no seat ;)
some pic favorites & i thankyou --
that is worth more than a high score !!
i printed it for the first time on Sun.. & it looks cool ...

I learned that most people dont like small gravel. I took my "dog tired" photo because i knew there were going to be alot of negitive space images and alot of scenery with a small main subject. so i decided to try to meet somewhere in the middle and possiably make my photo stand out and be different. I finished with a 5.055 which i am happy with. my goal was to finish at 5.0 at least. now i just have to figure out how to keep my white subjects from having blown highlights! thank you all who commented.

| actually buzzmom is for my son who goes to Georgia Institute of Technology...their mascot is "BUZZ" the yellow jacket...although it now works two ways i guess |

I learned that I prefer to "fill the frame". ;^) Same location, I turned around, walked about 10 steps, and took this other image.
I also learned to not take challenge entry photos holding an umbrella in one hand, wearing good work clothes, while being in a hurry to get home!
And last but not least, on a serious note, I did learn some valuable lessons on post-processing an image that was outside my range of "normal" edits. Thanks DPC'ers for some constructive feedback!
