Just called my local store to check when they would have the D70s available, and guess what: they were just unpacking the boxes! I hope to have time to pick it up tomorrow, can't wait to start playing!!

If I remember the D70s has a bigger 2inch LCD, that should be very nice. I've seen the 2.5inch LCDs on cameras and they almost seem too big. I think the 2 inch LCD is ideal.

That was one consideration to choose the D70s instead of the D70. The other one is that I'm shooting quite a lot in cramped spaces (like wine cellars :-) where I really need a wired remote. Can't wait to go to the store...

Unless somebody else buys a D70s before you do, you'll be only the 5th DPC'er to have one! And better yet, no challenge entries have been made with a D70s! Quick submit something, anything, and for awhile at least you'll have the top scoring D70s image!!

(Oh yeah, congrats on the new toy, have fun)!

Personally, I think the D50 sounds like a better deal at $899 with a kit lens, unless you are more interested in the higher buffer in the D70s.

Well, no, for me the D70s is the better deal. As I said above, I need the wired remote that the D50 doesn't have, and I like the grid lines in the viewfinder of the D70s. And I already have CF-cards, so I don't really like the SD-card format of the D50. If it weren't for the wired remote, I would have gotten a D70 a few months ago. And as nova said, this will give me the opportunity to be on the D70s top scoring images list, at least for a while!!

Ah, didn't know about your specific needs. Makes sense to get the D70. I do think the grid lines are nice. Easier to follow the rule of thirds with them. Hope you enjoy your new camera.

Well, got it last night and it's great! Sharp, incredible viewfinder (compared to an EVF), and fast. Fast, fast, fast! Here are some examples from this morning in my garden, straight from the cam:

Congratulations

Thinking the D70 will drop in price too now, I have been considering it as a back up or even the D50. Dont need to worry about the speed because my baby is fast enough at 8FPS in RAW but it would be nice to have a 6MP at my side too.

The bigger screen is nice, I thinkyou will fall in love very soon if not already, enjoy your great new Nikon.

Hey Congrats,
I remember switching from digicams to dSLR. The viewfinder clarity compared to EVF and the responsiveness of the shutter cannot be compared. I thought I'd miss the live preview on the EVF, I don't even think about it at all now.
Enjoy your new camera, and remember, buy lots of lenses, it really makes the camera more versatile and more enjoyable.

I got mine from last thursday. The two hours for charging battery had been the longest from time ago! About the camera I just can say that is simply perfect in all aspects. Im amazed about colours at any ISO in low light conditions! Where the hell are those realistic colours coming from? Where is the noise?
I bought the 18-70 kit and added a Sigma 80-210 from my old 801. No problem at all using the Sigma, works great in autofocus and light metering. But the 18-70... Lenses rules!
Hope to post some pictures soon. Only enjoying from now ;)
