*braces himself for a morning next week spent looking at hundreds of terrible pics of people's cats and dogs*

Let me guess - the topic for the week after will be 'Mine and Other People's Small Children'.

Am i right or am i right? :)

I myself am completely stumped. I live in the desert but I am a big wussy when it comes to bugs and snakes and scorpions...my only other idea was some coyotes, but there is no way I'm getting close enough to get a shot. hehehe...so...I am just going to think about it for a few days and hope something pops in my mind. My guess, is there will be a lot of creative entries. I hope the voters won't take the 'Fauna' definition too literally and strictly. Good luck to all.

Bugs are fauna, remember. Bugs are all over the place.

I´ve said it in another thread and I say it here too.
Dogs and cats aren´t fauna - fauna is the "wild" animals around us.
And flora is the "wild" plant world around us.

As much as you may not like it, there'll likely be a TON of pretty flower pics this week.

? I don't really see cats/dogs/or children as wrong, bad, boring, or not good.

There is nothing about 'flora' or 'fauna' that says they have to be wild animals or plants. It just means plants or animals.

So people count, pets count, house plants count.

Hmmm. Do tourists qualify as fauna?

Inquiring minds...

The New York Public Library:
Science Desk Reference

Fauna:
- The animal life of a certain region or time period.
Flora:
- The plant life of a certain region or time period.

You think of yourself as an Animal, or just other people?

No, I'm an animal too - species Homo Sapien

You think you aren't just an animal from a particular time period ?

It said region right? Well in my region there is cats, dogs, squirrels, Antolope, and deer. I think If you see a cat straying around the neighborhood and it is a good picture I will vote it high. For the flowers it doesn't matter. I will vote highest for the best flower out there. I don't know where people are from and so that leads us to voters who are going to say "well that looks like a house plant I give you a 1".

I don't know for sure, but I know the reigning question in Myrtle Beach has always been:

If it's tourist season, why can't we shoot em?

Yes, I have to agree. I believe there should be some element of "wildness" to the topics. Or perhaps more appropriately, those plants and animals "native" to a specific region. For example, Aussies could do kangaroos and koala's for fauna. I live in Arkansas so I'll go with possums and skunks.

Birds...Fish...Dead...Alive...Human...Non-Human! Oh, where does one begin?

Animals which regularly migrate to and spend time in the same place on a periodic basis would qualify as indigenous to me...

I´m a teacher. When we teach our students here in Sweden about fauna and flora we certainly don´t mean humans, pets or garden flowers. So folks let´s try to stick to what this challenges are all about - a little "wildness".
