I'm a Marketing Director in the Northeast and I'll be placing comments throughout the entries. I'll be taking the approach that these are the ads presented to me by one of the ad agencies we do business with. Though I won't be as harsh, I really hope not to offend anyone. I've already made a few comments and I'm impressed with the quality and creativity that is always presented on this site. Feel free to respond.

A professional opinion, though some may not like it, is a very welcome asset in a challenge such as this.
Thanks for taking the time.

If you should comment on mine with a "You're Fired", I'll understand. LOL

I've been commenting on those that are more ads and less than a really nice photo of a piece or pieces of jewelery. I'm going to try to comment on all of the ads. Very nice work out there.

Is there one here (a spell check?)? What did I spell wrong? I've come to rely too much on the spell check.

entrys/entries...

I have advised advert writers many times on the legality of their images, but more often than not, I am of most use in spotting their many grammatical and spelling mistakes!

Wow, thanks, I hope mine makes it into your comments. A word from a pro would be great. I'm extremely thick-skinned!

Of course a spell checker won't pick up on this one.

Sight is the ability to see, while SITE is a location.

(and CITE is a reference)

Isn't that when someone sees what you were referring to?

By the way, since you're fixing spelling errors, it's jewelry (not jewelery).

I really feel bad. I have been looking at these entries as if they were a advertisement. Many of them look bad. Is it me? Most of these I can not amagine seeing them in a magazine. I look at the layout first than I look at the quality of the photo.

Mine is one of the Bad ones. Well it's averaging 5.2. Not enough time to finish the image. I entered the textless version & Hoped I would have time to add text later.
Anyway I just wanted to thank everyone tof the number of comments and the amount of time put into making the comments. Some realy constructive stuff there. (Critical sometimes, but constructive)
Keep it up. Rip me apart I want to learn!

Thanks KaDi, I'm terrible with some words. However in response to bcoble, Some aren't ad quality and this is part of the process, I never take only one or two ad designs as finalists unless something just knocks my socks off. Every entry I've commented on has at least one good component that would work for an ad (many have more than one!). The trick is to put it together. There are many times when I'll ask the designer to put components from different ads together to make something I feel will sell the product or generate interest. By the way, 5.2 is my best score to date and I'd be pleased to get another!

Am I the only one finding an awful lot of images with very poor DOF, out of focus, or with the focus in the wrong place?

By the way Dexter, your comment on mine was right on and exactly as I would have expected.
Shame on me for editing mine on my home PC/Monitor.
:)

I think that you'll find that it is jewellery... ; )

My thanks to Neophyte for his comment on my pic - very useful.

I believe that many were trying to be really creative and different with their choice of Dof or focus. I also think many had problems taking such a close up shots of small subject matter. The problem here is that you don't want to be subtle. It just doesn't work in ads where the goal is attract attention to your message.

It is not you bcoble, most of the entries really are bad! I also looked at these as if perusing ads for jewelry and most would not make the cut, certainly not mine.
