I'm bombing as well. The way the instructions appeared was that text should be basic. I used the most basic font I could find and am getting hammered for it. Not that the picture isn't crappy, I admit its far from a stunning photo, but it looks like people are hammering down on it because of the text. Oh well, add it to another lesson learned.

avg score hovering around 5.0

I needed to buy some dispersion paper for this one but I kinda like the blown highlights and left my shot as is. That's what jewelry does...that's it's job.

I am very surprised; the SC's comment incentive must be working.

well now voters are asking if watches are jewelry, duh!!
04/25/2005 05:16:08 PM · #60
Of course they are. Men don't have the luxury of everyhting women can wear as jewels... I consider a watch a very beautiful piece of jewelry.
04/25/2005 05:29:26 PM · #61
Well I beg to differ. Unless of course you also consider someone stringing bear's teeth on a cat's gut and wearing it around one's neck jewelry...
There are necklaces I consider jewelry, and there are things you can put around your neck that would not qualify as such.

There are watches that I would consider jewelry, and then there are some watches I wouldn't.

But that's just me.

I am really ecstatic with my score, the comments and the favourite but based on the thread so far it just looks like I might be missing out on a ribbon yet again :-(

Anyone have any pointers as to how to go about winning a second ribbon? I would really appreciate them, lol.

lol, wonderful answer;-)

I am doing bad at this challenge 5.0737(not that I usually do very good) I loved the comment that my jewel was ugly, didn't know it was a beauty contest. Just shows that I have a bad taste when it comes to jewlery;-)

ok...i just finished voting on all the jewelry entries....i have to say that very few thrilled me...although some really did....i tried to look at it first as if it were an add....and based on that would i be interested in what they were selling....then the actuall picture and how well the product was displayed details etc....does that sound right????? this can be posted in the am i qualified to vote as well....

My score improved markably... (not that it's a super score but I will be happy if it stays above the 5.0 mark)

I agree with you Buzz. I'm not done voting and commenting (going for the 100% again), but i find that a lot of pictures are "nice", but would not be very interesting in a magazine or billboard. Like you, i first go for the 'wow' of a magazine add, which makes you feel cool and makes you want to own the item displayed, then i go towards the composition and photography work.

And unfortunatly, most are just not "that" appealing to me for a mag. But some are awesome!
04/25/2005 06:38:39 PM · #71
I originally voted on all of the entries. Now I am going thru them again, adjusting as needed then commenting on all of them. I first look at them as a advertisement only. Will they sell the product and does the background go along with the product. Then I look at the display and the quality of the photograph. Some are excellent photo's yet as a ad they just do not make it. I hope I do not hurt anyones feelings but the first thing is to see if it is believable as a ad in a mag. Would you buy jewelry if it is displayed on a monkey? (no disrespect), but regardless of the quality of the photo, this is not believable. My thoughts.

I like monkeys.. would this monkey happen to come with the jewelry? :)

good points made by everyone, very interesting how people look at what atracts them to certain ad's. would that make it that much harder to score higher? But good views indeed.
