Here is how the house that started it all looks today. This is the home that the movies were based on. It doenst look like the creepy thing seen in the films because the owners did some remodeling too throw off tourists. The home was guarded by police cars and I was told to leave, so this is just a snapshot. But it's definatly a photo ill always treasure.

Well you know that there are rumors that the whole thing was a prank, a story made up by the owners of the house.

The young man who murdered his whole family in that house is very true. The people who moved in afterwards might of made up some stuff for publicity.

Are you saying that after all, somebody is living in that house????The movie was so scary!!
Cool photo BTW

Looks like the house was remodeled a 3rd time. My cousin lives on the street. I happen to know the previous family living in there, and they have never had problems.

The murders were real. However, the story about ghosts and horror after the fact are a bunch of bull. The family (George and Kathy Lutz... or should I say NUTZ) that moved in after the murders was out for money to get a book made. So they made up a crazy story, and got rich off of it.

This is their website: Amityville Horror

They are rich and still making money today off of their story. ;)

While, I feel for the people who live there in a way... they know what they bought. So that said, just becuase a police officer asks you to leave doesn't mean you have to. As long as you are on public property and not obstructing traffic, that would only be a request that you move on. It's good to remember your rights

I know photodude....but the problem was that there was an obstruction of traffic. I must of counted 8 cars in front of the house with people standing in the middle of the street gazing at the home. I was told by the cops that as long as I dont step foot on their property Im ok, thats why he told me to take the picture, but it was his job to disperse the large crowd.

No. The previous family that me and my cousin were friends with, moved to a new house upstate. But they were living there for years. They were very nice, and would even give people tours of the house when they had time.

As for the newer people that live there, my cousin says he don't know to much other than the fact that they are normal, and also have not experienced anything other than people gawking at the house, or rumors. But they have not had anything weird happen there. The new owners name I believe is Brian Wilson. He bought the house for around 400,000 or more. More money was spent of course for the remodeling.

The house has been remodeled about 3 times. The picture that you have posted is really nothing different from the last fix-up. They mostly updated the interior.

It's actually been a dead issue for years, but now with this new movie, it has brought back the people. So, I can't speak for the new people living inside, but I am sure they are not pleased.

You will hear so many stories about that house, that you won't be able to know what is true and what is false. That includes my story. LOL. But I can promise you, from my own personal experience, and my cousins personal experience, that our story is accurate.

All I can tell people is to have an open mind, and believe what they want to. :)

You need to reread, Dave..

Claim: The Amityville Horror is based on a true story.

Status: False.

whats up vince, yea your story is very accurate because it's based on facts. John Defeo murdered his family there in 1977 at 3:15 am by walking into each Bedroom and shooting each member of his family. There are countless websites that describe the story a lot better, and the one you posted is a real good one. However, the Lutz family moved in and out of that house in 10 days and their recounting of the events that took place within those 10 days could either be true or false. All I know is that they must of made over 10 movies all together with the title "Amityville" in it and that Lutz family started it all. I wonder how rich they must really be?

If you guys are interested, there is a re-broadcast on the AM Radio Talkshow "Coast To Coast" that will feature an interview with George Lutz that took place on 12/27/2002. He is the guy that created the story.

You can go to Coast To Coast's website to find out what radio station in you local area picks this show up.(Click here for a direct link to the US Map to find out your cities station and time)

Coast To Coast is a radio show that talks about wierd things, like UFO's, Ghost, etc. I don't beleive most of the stuff on the shows, but its still a good show. It comes on late in my area. If you live in the NY City area, the station that carries this show is 77WABC and it will be on tonight at 1AM. (7700 on your dial.) By the way, here is a link to the advertisement to the upcoming Amityville show: Amityville Hoax??

true or not...it was a helluva good story. :)

I worked on the reshoots.

I don't know what was worse, the people that went through the hellish experience. Or having to work with a an over worked, over stuffed, rude, over paid director during the only reshoots of the movie when they had to make rain, and all our crap (equipment) was in tons of mud.

Got a paycheck out of the deal I guess.

I just saw the remake of the film and all I can say is, "it sucked".

I'm not sure what to believe about the whole Amityville Horror story. We really don't know the true story of what really happened. I mean part of me thinks it's a bunch of bull. Maybe this guy went public because he wanted to get some money out of it, ok I can believe that. Then I think to myself, why the hell did they leave a house after 28 days including all their furniture and belongings? You got to have guts to just leave your home like that not knowing for sure if you're really going to make some money. It doesn't make any sense to me. Maybe there was something evil about that house, or maybe George Lutz was being greedy. Who the hell knows. I do believe in ghosts though, so I feel that something like that could really happen.

If you dig a little harder you can find interviews with Lutz where he admits 90% of the movie is hollywood fabrication. The key word is BASED on a true story. It in no way, shape, or form implies that it, the movie, is the true story. It's a movie.

Most ghost stories are boring unless the story teller knows how to articulate the emotion. People without said talent can easily amuse idiots with rediculous interpretations of truth through stupid puppet shows.
And I, am the king of those idiots as a b-movie lover.

I'm referring by what George Lutz said on his interviews not by the movie itself.

Well... anyways.... because of a problem they had on the show last night that interview was never aired.

So if you stayed up late to listen, sorry. I am sure they will try it again.

I live 3 miles away from this house , I feel bad for the owners there are so many people that go there all the time , how would you like someone knocking on you door asking stupid questions at all hours of the day and night

I waited until 1:30 am. I figured it wasn't coming on so went to bed. I was a bit disapointed. I really wanted to hear what he had to say. Oh well.

I would never knock on their door to ask questions..im sure they would get mad, but like someone stated above..they sure knew what they were getting into didnt they?? I walked into a gas station to ask for specific directions on how to get to the house. The man at the station replied, "I have no idea where the house is". When another customer approached me and gave me the directions, this angered the gas station worker. He went over to the customer and whispered into his ear.." you can't be doing that" I heard it and was perplexed on why he would say that. Now I realize that the whole town is just looking out for the owners of the house.
