When I am asked to vote regardless of my experience, education, expertise, and/or knowledge my vote is always going to be based upon my view, interpretation, and/or opinion of how well the photo looks, technical aspects of the shot, did it fit the criteria and so on and so forth I just said it was based on my opinion but my opinion is based on many things.

2shay.. I very much agree with your post.

i wonder if there are any wise asses with only one of the items, voting lower on the ones with all three since this seems to be an issue now..hmmm

I only had one in my picture, but I voted higher on some with all three. I voted on what pics I liked , whether they had one or all three.

When the contest is over , do we get to see who voted and what they scored it?
04/22/2005 12:53:02 PM · #32
only if they left comments and tell you what they scored

I do agree,,I thik being unique,,showing just how different you can make you picture,,,,,I di also see alot of the same ones,,common ones,,but then again I didnt enter becuase I knew mine would be a common one,,its about being creative,,,I personally am working on that one!!

Creativity shows effort in my opinion and I enjoy seeing different ideas and different ways people view the challenges whether they include all or one of the items its interesting to see different interests thru the photos. :)

It would be a perfectly reasonable thing to do if either:
- the entry is poor in photographic quality, or
- the three items appear out of place, just deliberately placed in.

Kind of challenging getting these three items into a photo that DON'T look out of place - don't you think? ;^)

I got all three in and it wasn't worth it. It's a so, so photo that needed some advanced edit clean-up but I still thought it might do a dash better for idea and effort...but no. 5.2

My picture is doing so-so... but it is getting the comments that I was looking for. :)

where's the paper and scissors comment......too funny. Glad to see the most of us can read and understand the challenge requirements. My shot is doing well, thanks for all the good & constructive comments!.....ace

I used just one in my photo and I think it's good that there's room for artistic interpretation in the challenges.

I think of the challenge headlines and rules more like the game of scattagories. Frustration is a state, so is Florida. I think some people need to be a little more open minded on the interpretation of the rules. But that's just my opinion and I don't want to make waves around here :)

I totally agree with you...i find some raters are just expecting the impossible... remember photograpy is still supposed to be a fun thing, and i personally feel, that it's the 'zing' you get when looking at a photo that makes it a winner in your eyes or not....

I will go to bat. If the photo had nothing to do with the contest, no matter how I try, and it is a good photo. I give it a four. If it is a photo that matches all the criteria and it is not flawed then I start in my mind at 5, and go up from there to 7 with the technical niceties. To get to 8 it has to be unique to me. To get to 9 it has to create a feeling in me. To get to 10, I must be awe stuck.

I do not know if this is right or wrong, coming from an art background, it is all I have.

After all, with digital photography it has turned a discipline into a muse. That is why I am into it now. Technical can only get you so far. Muses must stir emotion to be epitomes.

Sometimes people try to outsmart themselves a little bit I think. But in the rock paper scissors, I didn't score very many photos very high that had all three in there. Seemed to literal to me. There are times when someones unique look on the category makes a difference, both positively or negatively, it just depends on the execution.

Smart, Unique, Creative - That's what it took to get all three items in. Hats off to those "smart" enough to figure it out. Go literals!!!

;^)

Yep - Takes a genius to find a rock by itself to photograph, takes a bit smarter genius to find a rock and paper OR rock and scissors to photograph, scissors and paper kind of go together...not too challenging, come up with all THREE in one photograph and voila - top genius of the group! ;^)

making any photo interesting, clever, and especially unique takes genious. Tthe arrangements of them seemed all a bit too stale. I liked the rolling stone magazine, that was genious and the zen like arrangement with the paper fan, and scissors fan wasn't too hard to look at, otherwise, for the most part, not much genious noticed in arrangement.
