So I finally decide which new camera to buy, and Panasonic is weirding out on me. I've been obsessing over finding a highly regarded, affordable large optical zoom camera.

Now I've decided to buy either the panasonic fz5 or fz4. However, at Panasonic's website, the availability date for these cameras keeps moving out...originally I saw an availability in April, then it pushed out a few times farther and farther into May. Today I checked the site and regarding availability they say "Ships on or about 06/01/2005"

Does anybody know when they might ultimately be released or why the company keeps changing the date?

I got my FZ5 on Friday (in South Africa). I read on dpreview that they are in short supply though. The shop I bought it from actually got it from the supplier specially for me. They received 2 at 5.00pm and by the time they closed at 6.00pm the other one was sold too.

Thanks. After using the Olympus C2100, I really couldn't settle for anything less.

So it sounds like Canada and South Africa are getting these cameras... (guess those countries were originally kinder to the Mother Country, but that doesn't count when it comes to a product from Japan, does it?)

Has anybody actually seen one for sale or bought one in the US?
