Hey,
My latest update. I just keyworded the last 88 images that Alamy accepted. I guess they'll actually show up in the catalog tomorrow. Still no sales yet though.
I've been encouraged by some of the latest postings about sales, and the amount of time it takes to start getting them. Thanks everyone for the info! And congratulations to those who have sold, keep it up!

Oh, one other question... I've got some pics of the damage from Hurricane Katrina... Do you think that's something the "Alamy audience" would be interested in, or should I send those to a "penny stock" site? Thanks for any opinions.

Great work for those who have got in and especially for those making sales.. Thats what is all about. It amazes me though at all the "snapshot" type photos acepted. I guess once the QC passes it really doesn't matter if the pic has marketing value as long as the noise is negligible and the contrast, color and sharpness is good. Don;t get me wrong, there are a lot of great pics but a lot of junk too. For those who sell .....GREAT Job.

Absolutely send those pics to Alamy. They do more editorial sales than commercial. I wouldn't bother posting anything to the penny sites. |

A non-profit educational organization in Utah licensed it for poster usage. :)

seeing what is getting licensed makes me think I'm submitting the wrong kind of images - a photo of a statue got licensed??? I never even look at a statue, except to think what a waste of CF card space they are!
I've got to rethink my style if I"m going to do this.

Yes. All my images on alamy are from slides I scanned on my Nikon 8000 ED scanner. I should have 56 more up in a week or so, they received my CD last week. I sold the Pug image after about 8 days.

How can you tell what is getting licensed? I wish you could see things like how many times an image has been viewed and/or bought, but haven't seen how to do it. What am I missing? Thanks...

if you have your images licensed as RF you can't see what they are used for when they are bought. HOwever if they are licensed as RM, when they are bought the purchaser has to specify the usage and size and where... that is how people know about their sold images.
no they don't have number of times an image has been viewed, or purcahsed available as a statistic

another sizing question, if ya'll don't mind...
i just resized a 300dpi 8x10 to 16x20 so that i could get the large print approved for dpcPrints. the saved jpg was about 11mb. for grins, i saved as tiff and it came out to 84mb. i know about the 48mb requirement, but does alamy have any dpi and/or pixel requirements?

The tricky part of sizing for Alamy is that they want 48 mb files with 8 bit rather than 16 bit. It is easy to get the file size if you are using 16 bit Tiff files, but harder when you go down to 8 bit TIFFs.

I don't recall any dpi or dimension requirements for Alamy, just the 48Mb minimum (except for reportage).
QUESTION for anybody who has a good answer- What software do you use to burn your photos to DVD to send to Alamy? All the ones I'm finding promote their ability to "create a slideshow", which is NOT what I'm trying to do. I just need to burn the photos onto the DVD, plain and simple. |

Just a question or a request...
Can anyone post a 100% crop of an image accepted by Alamy? I don't want to waste my time if my images aren't sharp enough.

Well i am a little in the same boat as you, however these are my general rules.
If it is of people on the street, or something with a brand name, it is obviously RM because it can only be used for editorial style stuff
If it is pretty standard things, like isolated objects on a white background then royalty free
If you are using models make it RM or other interesting things, maybe RM. I almost only have RF on alamy now though. I have submitted to Myloupe as well. Since i want to submit the same images to a few sites i have to go with RM (except for the editorial images... they only go to alamy)
i am thinking of posting more RM images though....

Thank you! At print size, my images look great. At 100% they seems a hair soft. I wanted to make sure I was on the right track. Since I'm not sure how they use them, its great to know I may pass inspection. Onward to resizing more...

i don't think that RM means it can only be used for editorial stuff. it just means that someone gets to approve the conditions for which it will be used, correct?
i'm not 100% sure on this, though. but you CAN used RM images in advertising, etc. beyond editorial usage. |

Hey, challenge successful for me - I thought they would notify me upon a sale, but they didn't.
Just found out I sold one earlier this month, a cover for some magazine no less - made my day.
My first stock sale at real stock prices - now the challenge is to get to 30 sales a month...
