I don't ask stupid questions (well, not normally ;-) I wondered if anyone has heard someone from the company pronounce it.

Are you from Boston?

Why would I be from Boston?

No. I live in the UK. Perhaps I should take a trip to Oxfordshire and find out how it's pronounced.

You put an 'r' in 4 of the 6 possible pronounciations you listed.

Just the opposite... we use very few "r"s up here. Mostly because folks down south stole them all, as in: "pepperoni pizzer" and "hey, look out the winder".

I already have an image library of c.200,000 images but it's very specialised (historic architecture - mostly English parish churches - and those type of photos don't have much of a market unfortunately)

200,000! Someone's been busy... :-)

..and here is me moaning about my 500+ backlog of image to keyword.

You must be thinking of a different south, or maybe Oklahoma, because nobody I have ever talked to calls a pizza a "pizzer" or a window a "winder". We do however call potatoes "taters" so maybe you have a point.

You can see what I've been up to here: //www.viewbuildings.com

which currently has a small percentage of the total pics... so this keywording of Alamy photos should be rather easy in comparison!!

Pretty cool project you have going there! I've had a reoccurring notion to do that here in Alabama.

My grandmother, from Oklahoma, called my hometown Warshington. She also warshed the winders. And yes, she had a college degree so its not an uneducated thing. Its an Oklerhoma thing. :)

d, who ate purtaters for years... :)

Well, my images have been received by Alamy, now I wait some more... At least I was just accepted as a MyLoupe photographer. MyLoupe seems to have some strange submissions guidelines (save as a "9" comp. level jpeg?).
09/07/2005 02:38:30 AM · #336
Uploading to MyLoupe is pretty simple. Your image needs to be resized to 300dpi, into two seperate sizes, and at a certain Jpeg compression. You then upload from their website in batches up to 10. Keywording can be then done online or with ITPC data.

Dialup users beware: it can be slowish, and for 10 images you will be looking at around in 22Mb in total to be uploaded.

I've been keeping up with this post & don't remember anyone talking about this... what is your workflow when scanning images?

They want you to scan in 16 bit but they want you to send them at 8. (I screwed up & scanned mine at 8 & now I may have to re-do arrgh!!!)

SO! Think I could get by with 8? And for the ones I do right :0)... Do you upsize, edit & then switch to 8 for the last step?
TIA :0)

I hate that part!
No sales yet, but I do only have 13 pics up there, for now!

Patience is the key Superdave... My first sale was after 6 months, and after I had over 400 images online. At this point many people would say "stuff that, lets stick to earning 20 cents", but that is the difference between flogging off RF images and selling RM licences. The average time is about 6 months from the time the buyer selects your image as a one of many for their book/mag/paper/advert etc until it goes through many steps until those images get weined out. THEN you hopefully get the sale... I started in Nov 2004, first sale in May 2005 (6 months after first images online).

I knew this before I started contributing to Alamy, but its paying off now. I have had a sale ever month for the last 5 months, with total sales during that time of US$851 (before commission).

WGF this is good to know, thanks.
So far we haven't got as many pictures online BUT I'm currently processing my images from our trip to Antarctica this winter gone and there will be at least 100 if not more to be keyworded and added once that's done.
And then I'll move onto the ones from Galapagos and Peru.
I am hoping that as we start getting the volume of images to a decent level that we'll eventually find sales coming through for us.
We're also in it for the long haul, we're not expecting immediate paybacks here.

But it's always good to hear encouragement of this sort.

Have you opted for their L licence for all your images or another one or a mix?
09/09/2005 05:41:23 AM · #343
I have 98% L Licenced.
09/20/2005 03:41:10 PM · #344
Well, with a little fear and trepidation, I sent my second set of test images to Alamy. Carefully checked and corrected for noise and pesky dust spots. . . . . . . . We'll see what happens.

good luck

Just an update on sales...

I was just tickled to death to have a single image license last month for $590 at Alamy, plus a few more in the $200 - $300 range. This month has been a bit slower so far with only 3 sales so far, but there are still a couple of weeks for things to pick up. :)
09/21/2005 08:20:28 PM · #348
Congrats on that sale, Jodie. I hear they have some go for much more than $590 sometimes, though that is a nice chunk of change. Which image was it that sold for so high? I just passed QC for my test images, now to get more images online (it's a rather lengthy process with them).
09/23/2005 05:19:53 AM · #349
question here.

If i have a licensed image on two different sites... how do i go about telling one site if it has been sold on the other? doesn't it present problems if the same image is bought on two different sites on the same day? ... seems like it would be just a big headache... but perhaps worth it to try and list a L image on two different sites... any thoughts or opinions here?

Bad form. If you want an image on two sites set them up as RF. It will save you some lawsuits in the long run.
