I don't think any of you guys will be disappointed in them. I love the flexibility and the easy control you have over things like moving pictures to and from other galleries, arrangement of pictures within a gallery, and so forth. I know it's well worth the $ for practically unlimited storage. Thanks for signing up, either through my link or micknewton's, or whoever's link you use...you'll be glad you did.

I added some of my galleries to micknewton's DPChallenge community today, and will be adding more I'm sure. Great idea mick! :o)

As a side not I sent out an e-mail to a number of people asking them to check my new smghug site. I inlcuded a link to my home page but a number of people can not make the link work from the e-mail. Many could. I used the MSN e-mail program to send.

Any ideas why they are not able to use the link?

I use tinypic.com for all my photo storage needs. It's on a linux dedicated server network, and best of all, the URLs will always be tiny!

For those interested I think I may have figured it out. My e-mail program automatically inserts hyperlinks with url's and e-mail addresses. I think what happened is I cut and pasted the entire message to one group of people from another e-mail I had sent. I bet I lost the hyperlink with that action.

I just finished having a first look at the galleries that some of you have added to the DPChallenge smugmug photo community, and I have to say, "Wow, you guys are good! Damn good!" :)

Any other dpchallengers that have a smugmug account, please feel free to add your galleries too. The community is at //www.smugmug.com/community/DPChallenge

Michael,
I will certainly link my Smugmug galleries to the DPC group as soon as I finish uploading all the stuff I had (have) on Pbase.

If you do signup, you can save money by entering my personal coupon qzDagz7w1S78w in the 'Referred by' field on the signup form.

More importantly, it also saves me money. :)

Ok I have signed up and used your code. I will have galleries set up by weeks end.

Awesome Fritz! Be sure to give us a link when you're ready so we can go check out the goods.

I'm still in the process of adding stuff to my galleries too. My problem is a major lack of decent images to upload. :) I never get any time to take any pics!

Michael - I had to unlink my gallery from the DPChallenge Community you set up. A number of people were getting confused that they were not looking at my photos and were instead in your gallery becasue of the large header and footer that is displayed anouncing Michael Newton Photography.

Don't know why a community defaults to the person who set it up.

I also joined the dpchallenge community at smugmug. Will connect galleries soon. I joined Smugmug couple of months ago on the advise of several DPC'ers and haven't regretted it.

Another good site for PAD and that sort of projects is buzznet.

Is there a way to make galleries private but have people you invite to view them and not just the whole world?

My wife is kinda jittery about posting our family photos on the site.

Yes, when you are in your gallery of choice, click on "Customize Gallery" and then there are lots of controls and choices you can make. :o)

Ok I went in but have to make it public for them to view but that makes it available for everyone. I put a password on it. Do I have to email them the direct link for that gallery?

You will need to email the password to the folks who are allowed to see the gallery and they can open it from there. At least that's what I've done in the past.

Thanks for the quick responses Laurie. I was wanting them to go directly to my site but I guess I need to give them the gallery website.

Lets add one more to the mix. I have my photos hosted by Fotki.com. Unlimited storage space and they do allow you to link to your photos. Lots of options. the price is going up on Monday to $50/yr. They're having a special right now. Sign up before Monday for $25.

My wife is kinda jittery about posting our family photos on the site.

The printing services (Ofoto, Snapfish, etc.) do this automatically. MyFamily.com also does, along with a variety of other family-oriented features.

I hated the way all the other sites were set up, so I decided on pbase. It was either pbase or get my own //www.whatever.com name and try to build a site.

Yup, I noticed that too. There's an option to turn this on/off, but it appears to be broken. It's always marked as Off, and changing it has no effect, yet even though it's always shown as Off, it's actually always On. I'm currently working with the PTBs at smugmug to get this fixed.

I haven't had any problems with Pbase. They, also, have a password protect system in place. What surprised me is that I've had over 20,000 hits on my profile/galleries in a relatively short time. (Only 5,000 here and I've been here going on 2 years. ? )
