My friend Tom talked me into submitting what's probably a pretty good picture, but it seems awfully similar to so many others this week. I'm curious as to folks' reaction to my more-typically offbeat alternate entry. I think that this week it would have at least stood out...
I have some outtakes in the same gallery (none of my submitted subject) -- comments on those are welcome too...

I am very impressed with most of the outtakes of fruit and veggies. I am going to give quite a bit of 7,8,9, and 10's. Everyone did a good job. I do love my fruit and veggies, so voting will be fun. :)
Good luck to all.

This link goes to "Big Sir." I don't think that's what you intended.

here's mine Spiderman's Veggie Outtakes

an aside to everyone out there who wonders if they submitted the right picture and looks for validation by getting comments on their outtakes (with respect to how they would've been scored) --- i got nothing but praise for my CANDID entry, as I did for my candid outtakes, and while "24 HOURS" didn't get my lowest score ever, it did finish with the lowest ranking ever for a Spiderman entry :(

Personally, I liked my choice -- and I can live with it :)

You're right -- and I think my computer crashed right then so I haven't been back to check it. I've corrected the link above, and here it is again.
Thanks Terry.

Comments appreciated.
Just so you know I did not go with peppers, limes, peaches or kiwi for my challenge pick.

Mushrooms are not a fruit or a vegetable, they are fungus.
Corn is not a fruit or a vegatable, it is a grain. Great picture, by the way, whoever took the 'Colonels' picture.
And walnuts are, well, nuts.

Close enough for me :) I don't get too picky :)

You really want to get technical, I have heard that a banana is technically an HERB!

Some weeks it easy to pick which ones will be the top 3 but not this week. There are a lot of great photos.

An herb? Hmmm. I will have to look that up to convince myself.

Lots of fabulous photos this week. Great job everyone!

I wish some of your creativity would rub off on me! ;-)

Yeah and most people here are not photographers we are "technically challenged snapshot takers", so take it easy on the minor details.

(oops trying again)

Banana

So, technically the banana plant is an herb, however the banana part that you eat is still a fruit of that plant.

Greatly simplified explanation follows:

A vegetable is simply any part of a plant that is edible, which could include seeds, stalks, leaves, roots, etc. A fruit is the seed-brearing part of a plant. This is why things like tomatoes and cucumbers are considered fruits. Technically, calling them vegetables is not incorrect, as they are edible and part of a plant. Even nuts are vegetables, they are just dried single seeds.

So to those that wish to nitpick if it meets the challenge, if it's part of a plant and you can eat it, it counts. But I think that said nit-pickers do so only to tick people off and revel in the complaints on the forums. Can't really do anything about that, only go by years of Usenet wisdom: "Do not feed the trolls."

I am personally using the stir-fry rule: If I can stir-fry it, it counts. And I stir-fry everything.
