I like to keep my lens cap on when I am not using my camera. But when you want to take a photo, what do you do with it?
For example If I am taking photos at a nudist camp, I don't have any pockets.
My Last camera had a fixed lens, so I had a leasch from the cap to the strap ring.
Now with removeable lenses, I can't do that.

Well besides those occasions where I find myself at nudist colinies, I pocket it.

I wear these pants:

... and I put the lens cap into one of the rear slash pockets.

I do all kinds of stupid things with my lens caps. Mostly they go in my back pocket or my jacket pocket if I'm wearing one. I often leave them on the roof, hood or toolbox of my truck, which is really stupid although I have never lost one that way. Other times I just leave them in may camera case.

At first, when going from my s5100 (with the piece that attached it to the strap) to my rebel, I actually misplaced it on a few occasions. Now, it ALWAYS goes right into my pocket. Or on that rare occasion when I don't have a pocket (don't ask!!!!) right back into my camera bag.

Mine get put in my back pocket of whatever pants I'm wearing. Then I promptly forget that it's there and wash it when I wash the pants.

I have the cleanest lens caps in town.

I put it in my pocket.

In a nudist camp...

...o.k. if I were ever in a nudist camp, I might not be nude.

But if I were:
1. Hand it to the subject and let them use it as a prop to cover something up.
2. Wear it as a monacle in my non-dominant eye.
3. Toss it to the folks around me and see how well it works as a frisbee.
4. Put it in my camera bag with my other gear.
5. Prop it on an out-of-the-way rock or tree limb (try to remember where I set it down.
6. Use it as a coaster for my coffee.
7. Attach a cord to it and wear it as an earring.
8. Get some sticky-tack and attach it to my back-pocket area.
9. Buy a pocket for my camera strap and tuck it in.
10. Slip it under my big toe in the sandal I'm wearing....

One of my cameras has the cap attached to a string, which makes things easy. The other doesn't even have a spot for a string to be attached. I'm tempted to take a thin cord and (carefully and tidily) hot-glue it to the cap. That seems a bit drastic, but it's my favorite camera, and I don't care about how bad it looks because I don't plan on selling it.
Another alternative is a generic lens cap, sold at most camera equiptment stores. However, I work retail, plan on getting married soon (which means I'm moving out of the shelter of my parents' home and into a world of bills and grown-up things), so I have to save my money for other things. If I can invent a way to get what I need from things I already have (i.e a hot-glue gun); I won't buy things new at this point in time. If that's not holding you back, though, lens caps with strings certianly can be bought at a reasonable price.

I ususally insist that a friend hold my lens cap and guard it with dear life. If I'm shooting alone, I usually hold it in the other hand or put it in my pocket.

One of mine can be foundby anyone immediately (a little travelling may be involved). It's on Ilkey Moor, next to the stone with 'Edwards' cut into it, in a deep hole between two other rocks. If you go to the 'w' of 'Edwards', it is right below there: last time I was there I could still see it.

When in a nudist camp, I do believe you have a slot handy...

Right but those 72 mm's are a bit of a pain.

I keep them in various pockets. When it gets uncomfortable to sit on them, they sometimes end up in the cup holders in my car. (3 are in there now) That can make for a little unstability on occasion.

I live 20 minutes from Niagara Falls. One Saturday afternoon a year ago last January I drove there to take some pictures in the snow. It was frigid and snowing continuously. Well, when I got home, I noticed I had lost the lens cap off my Sigma 105mm. I chalked it up to dumb luck.

The next day, since I wasn't finished with the photos I wanted to get, I drove back. While I was snapping away, my wife noticed this black thing sticking out of the snow. It was scratched and slightly damaged - but unmistakenly MY lens cap!

Considering the number of tourists that visit the Falls (not to speak of all the snow!), I should never have found that cap... Truly a needle in the haystack.

You can always make a little hole on the lens cap and strap a little srting over the cap and attach the other end to your camera strap... heard it somewhere in dpc... but never tried.

I Lost the other end cap, not the lens cap, for one of my lenses.
Anyone wanna send me an extra one for an EF mount?
