Woo Hoo

I'm now the proud owner of a EOS300D and the Fuji S5000 is sold

Thanks to the launch of the new 350D there are some great deals around for the 300D

I'll get a chance to play with it over the easter weekend

well chuffed

Steve

I'm an old darkroom troll recently coming of age. Presently I have canon A70. I've been watching the300D as well, contemplating purchasing one soon. Being of limited means I would like my DSLR purchase one that will fill my needs for quite some time. I'm reasonably new to digital and have been playing with PS 6as well. Enough babbling. Is there a big difference between a 6.3 MP and say, an 8 or 10 MP? What size prints can I expect to get that would be show quality from the different sizes?

Congrats Steve. Same jump I made (fuji to 300d). You'll love it!

How much did you pay? I found a deal here in China for 700$USD the kit for the 300D. They sell them though only with local (China) warranty.
I might consider getting one for this price.

shoot in RAW, properly upsample and you can get 20x30 inch prints from a dRebel. 11x14 inch is no problem at all.

I too though about getting the 300D (and was ready to put my money down.) The sales guy got me to look at the 350D. He has a 20D and said that if it was available when he bough he would get the 350D instead. There a significant number of improvements that IMHO justify the extra $’s (start-up, burst, write speed, flash metering, etc.)

The price is forgotten 100 feet from the store.

Yes, but my wife would remember it and refer it it for years and years and years and years etc etc

I would go with the 350 as well...I wanted the 10D but had budget issues. i don't regret getting the 300D.

I considered one other thought - regardless of which camera i bought I know i'd likely upgrade in 12-18 months, AND whatever i had would not get more valuable. So, buying the cheaper camera lessens my financial loss when i go to sell it. I consider the loss a rental fee.

I had my S602 for about 14 months, paid $400, sold it for $220 and still have some toys that came with it (batteries and charger). $180 'loss' for 14 months usage. I expect to lose twice that on the rebel, but lopok at how much a used D30 or D60 sells for - those folks have lost a great deal more cash.

The difference is only $200 (at bestbuy anyway). I think it is worth the extra $200 for a rebel 350 over a 300.
