I saw her last night, but today she was gone. Did someone remove that candid? I thought it was interesting.

Are you refering to "Perfecting Perfection"? If so, it is still there.

I think they are refering to the picture of the buxom young lady in her bra, putting on underarm deodorant. She's probably in jail for killing the person that took and entered that shot!

i think it was the photographer taking a candid of herself!!

Shuttterfly, you may well be right. How candid is that though? I have been wondering about this picture. Who would make such a highly unflattering picture of someone one lives with and not asks their permission to feature it on the internet? To the model or model/photographer: if you like to show yourself off on the net nude or sparingly clad, please loose a lot of pounds first.

Actually i really like the reflection. That's all i was going to say :) it's not a bad candid if she did it herself even if it was a "setup" candid.

Hmm, I thought we were supposed to rate the photograph and not the model. My bad.

In any case can we please save discussion of specific entries until after the voting?

Is that all I thought we would hear about another picture. If they sell bras on t.v. it's ok. Now if we get some other female products as a picture maybe we might should holler.

Journey I'd like to know what is so wrong with having a few extra pounds? Makes me mad that people stereotype what society thinks is pretty or attractive.

I have an extra 25 lbs I shouldn't have and I know that some people wouldn't be grossed out at the sight of me in a bra. I still wear a 2 piece bathing suit to the beach.

Try and be more sensitive. Yeesh.

Journey, I think you need to learn to be more discreet in your communications. It is very poor taste to criticize another person publicly. Bluntness may be fine in the privacy of your own home but please consider the feelings of other people. For the record, I didn't see the picture you all have been refering to, but I can't help coming to the defense of those who get walked on by others who think they are better. Btw...I noticed you don't have a picture on your profile page. How would you like to post a picture of yourself for others to criticize?

I don't stereotype what society thinks is pretty or attractive. It was ME who said she was fat. I couldn't conceive anyone wanting to show that off so prominently and voluntarily on an internet picture. That was not really the issue for me though. I questioned the ethics of the picture. Whether permission for showing had been granted or whether this was a staged self portrait. Also, if you want to show subject material that risk not to be deemed wonderful by some then be prepared to get responses that may not please the submitter, either. The picture intended to create a response in the viewer and I responded.

First and foremost, the model is not that big... well where she shouldnt be anyway. I thought she was rather attractive, excepting the horrific things she's probably done to the photographer for posting it. Now given the short span in which shots must be conceived, sought, and taken, models are not going to alter their weight (if it were necessary... which here it isn't), but more importantly I would try to err on the side of thinking that the photographers know their models personally, and if consent is involved, said individuals might be reading your words. Hence, why make unkind statements about an individual who was photographed during a contest? Really poor taste.

I wanted to respond to this thread, but in composing my post I found myself resorting to the exact tactics that I was going to criticize. Suffice it to say: namecalling is not necessary. Value judgements against people rather than photos is not only not necessary, but not welcome:

Blatant instances of slander, profanity, vulgarity, or other personal attacks anywhere on the site will not be tolerated. This is a website for people of all ages and skill levels to have fun and improve their photography. All we ask is that you treat others with the respect they deserve.

Defending your personal opinion in this instance Journey only persists in disrespecting the person in the photo. Please stop.

Expressing my personal opinion in the forum about the subject of a submitted photograph was indeed unkind. I apologize for having done so.

I would make the comment that as an athletic male even “chubby” females turn me on. But hey, that’s nobody’s business. : )

what did i start here?????

Does that mean that cuz you're athletic that you're too good for chubby gals? Haha I'm joking I dont want to cause more sh*t here :P

Us chubby chicks are the fun ones. So there! ha!

OH geez.

I didn't mean to start this thread... i wasn't talking about hte first photo when i was teasingly, and i mean, TEASINGLY asking about the blonde girl in front of hte mirror, which is a good idea because it keeps you from wanting to look at the mirror image.

Unfortunately, however, the society aesthetic tastes in its current form is that of a Barbie. There was a time, say, 400 years ago during hte Renaissance when voluptuous women were the beautiful ones and if you were skinny, well, you'd be considered unattractive. Let's keep it in perspective. A good photograph is a good photograph.

You're right paganini. It really surprises me sometimes. When I look around at the women in my bellydancing class, I can't imagine why on earth most of them wouldn't be considered "beautiful" by mainstream standards. They'd be too fat, too pear shaped, too old, etc. Me, I'm in that not skinny, not fat place that I think BigSmiles is :). I'm a strict vegan, I do my dancing and Ashtanga yoga, I have muscles under my curves that surprise people... so I really don't care what the rest of the world thinks, I'm happy :). And I'm going to continue going out in public showing my midriff or my cleavage and let those with hangups about it deal with it! I used to be insecure about my body when I was a kid, and I really have better things to think about these days.

And by the way, when I was at Uni I acted in a few plays, one of which was a cut-down version of the "Rocky Horror Picture Show", when I wore a really tight blue corset with a tiny skirt, black tights and boots. I had cleavage so high I could rest my chin on it! The guy who used to lace me up just looked at it the first time and said "Wow... you could curl up and go to sleep on that". Guys couldn't stop grabbing me. So, somewhere in there, in the male psyche, curves still reign supreme... advertising in the modern world has managed to superimpose something strange over it, but it doesn't withstand exposure to the real thing :)

On that note, when we dress up for ren faire, everyone "lets it all hang out" and I couldn't be more happy. LOL Those darn bodices. Guy laced my up for the first time...he said "hold 'em up high", I did, he laced me and said "can you breate ok?" So I said yeah. Then as casual as anything, he says "then it's not tight enough". So he hiked my boobs up another 2 inches and called it good. I used to be a small girl and got appreciation for that. Now I'm a bit bigger, and just get appreciation in different places, with differen crowds.
hey...someone somewhere loves that naked pencil guy too!
LOL...oh my. I'm too sick for this...I'm going to go lay down and sleep till next week.

Fat, thin, tall, short, black or white… Who cares! I say live and let live; and lets face it, kindness doesn't cost a penny… This isn't a political site (correct or otherwise) it's a photographic site. If a picture is capable of creating interest like this, it can't be a bad shot and lets face it, of those who have seen the picture, which of us cannot remember the young lady in question? Based on the comments in this forum, the picture should have had a fair few tens…. :o) If I'd have taken that shot I'd be proud to read this lot…

BTW – all my shots thus far have finished close to last, but I've still entered every week since I've been a member here. From the comments I've had – some of which would be considered rude – I have read all, and I have learned, now, this week – challenge number five for me – I have a picture that is doing really well… Just goes to show, an open mind – even when your picture is described simply as 'Stupid' – will always overcome a closed one…

Thanks to everybody who has ever commented on any of my pictures… GOOD OR BAD…

So? Have you learned anything with those low finishes? Man never grows up looks like a good composition to me.

Are you taking the input you recieve to try and place higher?

You bet; I have learned more about photography from this site in the short time I’ve been here than I have in the last 25 years of shooting alone…

What I find is the most useful is how people comment on other peoples shots. If I see a shot and I think it’s superb, I’m interested to see how others view it and try to analyse why I like the shot – same with shots I don’t like. Most of all, I love the creativity of the people here, and once the imagination is seeded, it’s fun to try and get the shot. I’m not just trying to get a shot that I think will do well in the challenge, that would be very nice, but I’m happy if I think the next one is better than the last. I also try to see my own work without being blinkered, after all, I want to learn, and you can’t do that without listening…
