Call Apple if it is still under warranty. They're pretty Knowledgeable. If it's not they won't even talk to you unless you have a credit card in your hand.

Remove the battery, wait a minute, then reinsert. Startup holding down command-option-p-r and wait for the startup sound three times, then let it continue. That should clear it up. If not, try starting with the shift key held down.

Have yo tried booting with the OX install disk and Repair Permissions? Boot with Install disk then open the Disk Utility and select your hard drive, click on the Repair Permissions button.

Sounds like THIS might be the problem (if you have a studio display). Otherwise, here's another thing to try...

Startup the computer while holding the S key. you should get a black screen with computer code on it. At the prompt, type "fsck-y" and hit the Enter key. Repeat until no problems are found, then type "reboot" and hit Enter.

Good luck!

Hi
Have you added more RAM recently - sound like a bad RAM issue.

Apple customer service for a new owner is 24/7 - should be calling 1-800-275-2273 - have your serial number ready.

I don't own or operate an Apple, but people I know do, they swear by OS 9.1 for the operating system.

It doesn't provide job security for IT repairmen.

Sound advice.

If you're savy enough, you might want to switch your RAM modules (under the keyboard), if you have more than one installed. If this does not work, remove one at a time.

I agree. Powerbooks are especially finicky about RAM. I've had memory go bad in a 12" Powerbook twice at my office.

This happened to my 12" ibook last November. It is a bad logic board. Go to the apple page and click on the extended logic board repair program link at the bottom of the page. You will have to send it in to be repaired. It took about 4 days for mine, roundtrip.

Possibly. We had two repairs under that program, but I believe the problem was specific to iBook logic boards, not PowerBooks.
