Does anyone know of any places that might be interesting enough to shoot out near Lancaster, Palmdale, or any desert ghost towns out that direction?

I need a destination out that direction for a Saturday photography outting.

Hey Eric, please post if you learn anything. We are heading up there on the 12th to visit the poppy preserve and the nearby desert scenery. I have been searching for the past hour online to learn more about the Antelope Valley. I am sadly not finding much. It looks like there are some canyons not far away that could be really cool to visit.

Let us know what you find. Are you really against flowers? Or will you join us on the 12th?
:) Arie

Just a couple hours north of you off I-15 this may be a little more touristy then you are looking for but it is always a lot of fun and has a ton of historical value as a shoot location. Calico Ghost Town

Out near Mojave, there is the Mojave airport where they store a lot of airliners that are not in use. There's also the windfarm on one of the roads going out of Mojave (I think it's the El Cajon pass, but I could be wrong) There's also Edwards AFB, I used to go out there and see the shuttle land, dunno what they have for the public now. If you have a truck, get a map and find a dry lakebed (of course with all the rain out there, it may not be so dry anymore). There used to be lots of abandoned mines out around Ridgecrest, just don't fall down an abandoned mineshaft. There are lots of dirt roads, you can find all sorts of things. I remember finding a VW beetle once that was literally more bullet holes than car. Just don't get too lost, make sure you have plenty of gas, a spare tire, and plenty of water.
