Hi,
I am currently a student and am having difficulty with something.
We have been asked:

If you have a film speed of 125iso and shutter of 1/125 what would be your recommended apeture for this?

How do you work this out? Can you work out if you were given the apeture and ask for the shutter speed as well?

Thanks for any help :)

Nicky.

I'd say the answer is "depends on how much light there is"

I all depends on how much light is available. If its dark, the largest aperture to let most light in, and if it's bright, the smallest, to avoid over-exposure.

thanks but apparently there is a 'text book way of figuring this out. I not sure if you use times or divide it by something.

Why did I enrol? :)

No wonder yo're having a problem... you're missing some information. In order to know the aperture, you need to know how much light is present. Knowing that, you can set a proper shutter and aperture combination for the given film speed.

edit:
LOL, way too slow!

No, there's really no way to figure this out without additional information.

maybe the answer involves using the camera meter to calculate the appropriate aperture for you, based on the light that is available. that's text book enough for me...

are you leaving part of the question out? it would also largely depend on what you are actually photographing.

its been my understanding F/16 for sunny conditions, F/11 for slight overcast, F/8 for overcast, and F/5.6 for heavy overcast but I think automatic metering would be the best

Thanks Guys- I don't have the question here. I will post this on tonight :) I know that the question is so simple I am missing something. I think I am reading it too much. Sorry for any confusion- I will post the correct question on in about 8 hours if you are intersted.

Cheers!!!
Nicky.
