Hey all,

I'm pretty new here. I've been registered for a while but only just began really looking over and participating in the site. My question here is, are there ever any Open Challenges that use the Advanced Editing rules??? I plan on becoming a member in time (I want to give it a while to make sure my money is well spent first) but in the mean time, I'd like to use some of my editing skills in challenges.

Thanks,

l8r.

There have been a few over the last few years.... but not many...

To date there have been two Open challenges which ran with the Advanced Editing rules.

Those were:

Mechanical (Challenge 292)
Once in a BLUE Moon(Challenge 242) - this was also the only Open speed challenge

As Artan posted, there hav been only a very few, and going forward it's likely to stay that way. The Member chalenges are meant to provide incentive to join, and the advanced editing reflects that those who join are likely more experienced.
I'd suggest going ahead and submitting to the basic editing challenges, and doing that for a couple montths. That'll give you a feel for the velue of participation in the challenges (it's greater than you might think) and you can make a more informed decision about joining.
Speaking ony for myself, I can't imagine a place where one gets a better return on their $25 than here at DPC.

I would say the same. This has been my photography class (since they don't offer it in my highschool).

Have we ever had an advanced contest with basic editing?

All of the member challenges from Free Study (Challenge 46) through Giving Thanks (Challenge 164), plus After Dark (Challenge 176) ran under a previous ruleset that closely resembled the Basic rules. That ruleset is now known as the Classic Rules.

In that time there were 7 challenges with Extra Rules stating that the Post-Shot Adjustments section of the rules did not apply (basically making those challenges unlimited editing).

Thanks all for your responses. I have a feeling that within a month or so, I'll be forking out the 25 USD for a membership. I appriciate everyones responses about previous challenges, but I guess my real question is: WIll there be any open challenges with the advanced editing rules, any time soon?

Thanks again,

l8r

I am only a beginner and haven't submitted to any member challenges yet. But agree that I haven't fopund any better way than this for my $25 a year. I have already learned so much.
