Great Job Everyone :)

My highest scored Challenge to date. WOW, you folks can do a portrait. I didn’t enter, sort of sorry now just so you guys can get used to my mug. I guessed several and it’s going to be great to see who’s behind the camera on the ones I don’t know. I’m lost for a favorite there are just so many to choose from.

Some of these are simply terrific. And it is always interesting seeing the faces of your friends and peers in front of the camera!

I have to agree, there are some great shots! I gave out a lot of high scores this time around, and I was surprised by how many good lookin' DPCers there are ;)

My goodness...I just finished voting on this challenge. I'm completely blown away. Congratz to everyone! All who entered get a big pat on the back. I myself was too shy to put myself infront of the lens, but now feel inspired!

I don't think I've ever handed out so many 7's 8's 9's and 10's!!

Well, that post has lifted me somewhat. A 5 ribbon winner giving me an 8 on their lowest voting challenge AND a helpful comment, makes my submission worth while - thanks.

It's true there are many very attractive and photogenic DPC'ers. But how about all the facial hair? Haven't seen so many beards, stubble & moustaches since I accidentally blundered into a gay biker bar. Of course, I'm just referring to the guys here. The ladies' entries all appear reassuringly clean shaven.

Guess we're all caught in some kind of weird Miami Vice time warp (sans the pastel suits). ;)

I didn't even look at this challenge until I read this thread. Wow! Seem we have quite a few photographers who are just as happy in front of the lens as behind.

it seems like many people where waiting for this challenge to make there beards.. :)

I think we're all just too sorry to shave. My case anyway.

Besides, it gives us that distinguished photographer look!

This has been a good challenge so far. Its much more interesting than I thought. I scored 2 tens, 8 nines, and 15 eights.

I just finished voting.

I got
4--10's
3--9's
6--8's

Some talented photographers here

Im shocked at how many famous lookie-likeys we have here. I've seen 2 spocks, a tim robins and phil collins with a tash so far and I've not finished voting.

I also am blown away by how gorgeous all the men are (ladies too but I pay less attention to them, sorry heehee). Every picture, I was "Oh he's cute! [click] Oh HE's cute too! [click] Ooo another cutie..." heh heh heh

I agree! ....and shaving takes time away from important things - this response, for example.

that's what happens when the challenge ends on a sunday (in N.A. anyway). I always shoot entries last minute, and no way I was going to spend time gettin' purdy if I wasn't on my way to work :)

Last time I shaved my beard was in graduate school in 1978 after losing it in a bet (over how many publications I could get in a summer). But I never agreed to shave the mustache, so I've not been clean shaven since 1974.

Hairy and proud of it. ;)

Someone with a bushy beard shoulda spoofed Theodor38's portrait with "Furrtaceous"

Maybe I am not seeing a lot of the pictures as everyone else is. Most of the pics, in my opinion, are basic just plain ole' portrait shots of themselves. I hope I am not offending anyone, but I assumed that this was about finding creative ways to shoot the portrait, not just another pic of yourself. Is this not more of an artistic design challenge? Apparently, from a lower score than I thought I would get on my photo, most people disagree. Can anyone help me with this? Does art not count towards the photo, breaking from the mundane?
02/15/2005 02:36:56 PM · #48
actually, i viewed this as more of a technical challenge than a "be creative" challenge ... but there is a lot of both i think. as has been said before, we aren't all beautiful ... so a person could have done a fantastic job and still not get the call from GQ - doesn't mean they should get voted down.

I'm almost shocked! I have 202 votes in a challenge with 245 entries....

and there is 5 days left for the challenge! wow...I feel REALLY behind!
02/15/2005 04:04:56 PM · #50
The challenge is what you make of it. If you choose to submit an artistic interpretation of the challenge that's cool. But this time around I decided to try a very straight forward portrait using the techniques I might use to do a portrait of someone else. The purpose being to make a decent photo of the person in the picture.

I'm interested in improving my technical photography skills at the moment.
