I am interested in getting to know some people from around the Oceanside, California area. I only know one other person and he's not always available. I would greatly appreciate some friends or even just someone to talk to in the area that might be willing to show a new (young...27 yrs.old) around the area so I can get used to it.
You have no idea how grateful I would be...and I'm not trying to sound like a whack job, but I am scared to death of moving there. And cuz I have no place to live, I am pitching my tent on the beach somewhere in hopes that nobody will invade my stuff. I had all this planned out then most of my stuff got stolen yesterday along with all my money, and all I have is a bus ticket and a job interview in San Diego for a company called Images. I declined a job in LA cuz I had a hunch it was a fake. I am a good person really, and I've probably already freaked ppl out, but I get talkative when I'm nervous. ENOUGH...please email me..I would be at the utmost appreciative!!
Thanks,
Crystal

Hi Crystal,
I live in Poway and have a business in Escondido - both are fairly close (17-20 miles away). Holler when you get in the area.
Can't promise anything time-wise as I work 6 days a week and travel with the High School wrestling team
(#1 in CA this year) on all their meets around the State.

Oh and by the way, here is something to get you aquainted with California:

You know you're from California if:

1. Your coworker has 8 body piercing's and none is visible.

2. You make over $ 100,000 per year and still can't afford a house.

3. You take a bus and are shocked at two people carrying on a
conversation in English.

4. You can't remember . . . . is pot illegal?

5. You've been to a baby shower that has two mothers and a sperm donor.

6. You have a very strong opinion about where your coffee beans are
grown, and you can taste the difference between Sumatran and Ethiopian.

7. A really great parking space can totally move you to tears.

8. Gas costs $1.00 more per gallon than anywhere else in the U.S.

9. Unlike back home, the guy at 8:30 am at Starbucks wearing a baseball
cap and sunglasses who looks like George Clooney really IS George Clooney.

10. Your car insurance costs as much as your house payment.

11. It's barely sprinkling rain and there's a report on every news
station: "STORM WATCH."

12. You pass an elementary school playground and the children are all
busy with their cells or pagers.

13. It's barely sprinkling rain outside, so you leave for work an hour
early to avoid all the weather-related accidents.

14. Both you AND your dog have therapists.

15. The Terminator is your governor.

16. If you drive illegally, they take your driver's license. If you're
here illegally, they want to give you one.

Wait 'til you've been here for a few years. Some of those things won't seem so funny...

Andy & Brad,
Either of you care to get together some time? I live in Escondido, work in La Jolla. Would love to rub elbows with a couple of DPC's big guns.

Hey Crystal,
What happened?
02/12/2005 02:05:49 AM · #13
I'm from La Jolla :)

Cool. I wonder if we could put together an outing for local DPCers. For anybody who's interested, the SDSU women's water polo team has several games (meets? matches?) at home in March. I'm told that there is no cost to watch. I'm planning to go at least once to shoot. Maybe that would be a decent field trip for some of us.

No problem. I had the impression, originally, that you were already out here.

Opps..clicked on your profile and lost my reply...thats ok it was too long anyways.

A get together sounds like a good idea...a welcome to SanDag kind of thing for crystal.

I work Sorrento Mesa and live just off 15 in the scripps/mira mesa area (wrong side).

MonteryKiddo, I may just be up in your area for the Bir Sur Marathon, as the inlaws live and carmel valley and the wife runs that crazy race.

I'm headed to your neck of the woods right now aronya as it is raining I might as well spend money at North County Camera on the 50mm 1.8. As we will be taking a lot of low light shots in this rain.

Has anyone here been to the Animal and Bird hospital in Del Mar? I hear for a donation that you can go into the aviary and get shots of some pretty cool birds?

Never even heard of it. Sounds interesting. I went out this afternoon to Lake Hodges. You can see a few shots on this thread Let me know what you think.

I'll check your shots...but first

What a trip it was...NC Camera (now Calumet) got the 50mm 1.8 MK II (sorry for doubting anyone...the lens is Sharp...it rocks) anyways 15 south was backed so I took 78 ended up in O'side.

Found the Bird and Animal hospital and it is pretty cool. It's on Jimmy Durante blvd just after the fair grounds and before Del Mar. Seven days a week they have what is called Free Flight an outdoor Aviary that for a buck you can go in and interact with the birds (except when it's raining). The birds are ones that they have rescued or are baby setting while people are on vaction kind of like room and board for birds...all kinds of exotic stuff looks like a cool place to go on a sunny day.

Adding it to the list of sites to visit.

A get together sounds great. Like I said before, I will go to the library or something to get online until I get situated. You are all free to email me at my email address instead of through this thread, crazycrystal1977@msn.com
Let me know when and what you are interested in doing. but I would like to wait for that first paycheck to come in before, so I'm not flat broke.

Hi Crystal,
Apparently, you're here because you like to take pictures. There are plenty of places to go shoot that wouldn't cost you (or any of the rest of us) money, especially if you are on the west side of the base. I'm dying to go to the tide pools in Dana Point, about 20 miles or so from the Oceanside base entrance.
