To commemorate the historic signing of a new offshore deal for the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, I have created a print. I just uploaded it for review. It's done a la Setzler's Liberty and Justice. It's the shape of the island with the Republic of Newfoundland flag colours - Green for the Irish, Pink for the English, and white in between to seperate them. It was used back in the days before Newfoundland became a province of Canada and still a colony of England. Newfoundlanders are a patriotic lot. Hope you enjoy it.

Congrats...just don't tell me that flag is going to replace the Canadian flags that came down. That was just dumb.

Anyhow, I'm glad that you guys got the offshore deal you deserved...

I like the shot orussell, especially the way the outline of the island shows in the drops. Maybe a blue background representing water, the black makes for a kinda dark overall impression.

Cool shot, I've always wanted to try this technique but could never come up with something original to use as a picture. The outline of the island works great. The flag looks like Italy to me tho!

Here's a related news item if anyone was wondering.

Thanks. Blue never occurred to me, but you're correct.

Thanks. In Italy's flag the green is a brighter green and it's red not pink. The pink in mine could have been a little more so. But the colours I used were picked for the graphic with the eye dropper. I may have introduced a bit of colour shift through the whole process. But I do see what you mean Ben.

Shameless bump for any fellow Newfoundlanders and Labradorians who might be online tonight. Only see one I recognize.

I beg to differ. Plus, they went back up ages ago.

P.S. Very nice orussel, I'm glad you went with the old school flag.

Beg to differ how? The flag is a symbol of the people, not the government. Using it as a bargaining chip is totally inappropriate. I'm sure there were a lot of people in Newfoundland who were as offended as I was that anyone would use it in such a manner. You can't pick and choose when you're going to be a Canadian, and that has nothing to do with the government.

It's available as a print now. Feel free to tell your ex-pat Newfoundland friends about it. :)

jimmythefish's response was appropriate, please see it for common sense.

Anyway, back to the photo...I feel bad, orussell that I commented earlier on the politics but neglected to comment on the photo. I think it's a great photo and I hope you sell a lot of prints! Nice work!

The flag, the shape of the island, or the droplets? And if you're talking about Setzler's Liberty and Justice, he got the idea somewhere else also, I do believe.

I think Owen has already given Setzler the credit for inspiration. I know I get alot of inspiration from this site and believe that's what's it's strongest attribute.

Great job on the flag Owen, I might try your technique for the Icelandic flag ;)

Just got a call from The Downhomer Magazine. They are interested in selling my Newfoundland Republic picture at their store in St. John's on consignment. It's pretty big deal for me. :)
