I know this is a lousy shot, but a friend challenged me to find out where he is right now based on it. Anyone have any clues? I know this isn't really a photography question as such, but I really'd like to beat him at his own game. Thanks a bunch.

Hmm... could be the old Executive Office building in Washington D.C.

DC doesn't really have tall buildings. It does look like a Northeastern city, maybe NYC, Boston, Philly? Am I being any help? ahahah :)

Edit to say: DC doesn't really have tall tall TALL buildings ahaha. It's late, I'm tired. Forgive me.

i don't know how you can prove this...but an interesting challenge to try.

i'd guess chicago off the top of my head--with the snow and the interesting juxtaposition of old manse and modern office building. the foreground is the type of belle epoch building you see in paris (but not so much in that otherwise skyscrapery nabe). also you see a lot of this sort of architecture in washington but it is DEFINITELY NOT DC, they have a restriction on building height to 12 stories so the modern buildings are way to tall.

as for other places in europe or (hmm!) asia, i don't know. i can tell you, it's not in guatemala city. that's for dang sure.

i guess we all agree about DC. funny that it got three mentions in three posts.

also, the snow all over makes me think chicago... tho' philly's an interesting choice. is robert mann out there? he'd know.

No, OFreasier, your picture was just fine. I was composing the message (and working at my actual job) while you posted your picture. So I didn't see it till after I posted. Thanks for the photo.

Aw, you're too kind :) My shot was pure snapshot, a tourist snapshot at that. I've learned so much from this site about angles and lighting that I'll do much better next time I photograph that building. I just gotta get my butt across the river (the Delaware, I'm in NJ) and do it!

That was too much fun, we should have more scavenger hunts like that :)

Oh, yes. I've chuckled at that sign (and its twins on the wall) many times on my way out to Pierce Point Road and beyond to the lighthouse.

Ok, here's a challenge:

Where the heck is this?

(I know, because I took this one myself...comments would also be apreciated)

You are right. I took it in downtown Point Reyes. I parked my car right in front of it and thought I should take a picture of it. It has been a real favorite of mine. Mainly because of the fun I had that day.

I just cant believe anyone would know that this was Point Reyes....
