I am calling a DPC Meet Up for all LA, Ventura & San Diego Members (and others) who wish to go to Anza Borrego in April.

The wildflower level is very high and this could be very exciting:

Anyone want to go? I think the 1st weekends of April would work best. I am suggesting April 2nd, but am open to suggestions from everyone!

As usual, I need to check where I'll be for that meet. Hopefully I'll be in the LA area. :)

OK, Arie, here are the dates I'll be busy for sure: April 2-5 and 16-20.

I've been meaning to go out there for shoot for a while...been thinking of doing the sunset/sunrise thing. Will watch the thread to see what date/time you are looking at and try to plan accordingly.

The poppies aren't 'cancelled'. We just moved them back to March due to the weather and blooms. We could still go in April as well, maybe :)

Sunrise / Sunset sounds really fun! I could try to plan for that. We may all have to consider camping or getting coffee on the way!

So, how does April 9th work for everyone?
01/26/2005 02:36:08 PM · #11
I may consider going on this one, but not really knowing what I am doing tomorrow, planning a few months in advance is beyond my scope of reality.
(major changes in my life right now with my business on the market)

If/when this comes to fruition, will you drop me a line to remind me?

Not to take advice from an Arizonan... but you might want to consider going much earlier, maybe half a month. Based on the pictures already posted for the area on the desertUSA web site Anza Borrego looks to be on its way to a peak already.

With all the rains desert wildfowers should be spectacular this year!

I wish we could. I am not sure though. Perhaps in Feb, but we have a trip planned for March already.

I'll post in the Feb meet up board.

:)

I am actually probably moving to Oceanside, CA in a couple of months. My fiance is in Camp Pendleton and we are expecting a little one in end of September.

My friend Christopher Westerheide is in camp pendelton. Does your fiance know him? I think he's a seargent (not sure though).

Once you move out here, you can join us once in a while!! Congrats on your little one that's coming in sept :)

Not sure if he does, but when he calls this weekend I'll ask him. My fiance is only still in training. but doesn't mean he doesn't know him. Thanks for the congrats on the baby. I am nervous..but I think we'll be fine. I hope a small town girl like me can hack it in a big city.

Don't worry, Oceanside is not a big city. You'll be fine! My friend Donna lives there. I met her on a photography group. I'll introduce you when you move. Just send me a PM when you are settled in!

Can you please put me on your mailing list, too? So far ahead, Apr.9 looks good.

agreed...that far into the future works! I don't have anything planned for April 9th :)

....Now I have a trip to the desert planned!

I like planning in advance. It gives people a chance to mark their calendars now and tell others to bug off :)

Just some info: I've been there a couple years ago, and it was AMAZING!!! Lots to do and see, impossible in one weekend. I suggest if you have one, bring a 4x4. There's beautiful trails that take you to some pretty amazing sights. Font's Point is a short 1 mile trip up a sandy wash to overlook some stunning "badlands." The flowers are cool, just growing out of nothing in the sand. There wasn't quite as many that they played it up to be, at least when I went, but the ones that we did see were pretty. The nature center in town has all kinds of cactus that would make great close-up shots. If you go there via Temecula, you end up looking down 5000 feet into the desert before dropping in, and there's lots of turn-outs on the way down to see the desert and the Salton Sea below.

It is a pretty long drive (coming from LA) for a day-trip, I'd recommend staying overnight if possible. The night sky is worth the stay. I stayed at the Palm Canyon Resort, the name's a bit mis-leading, but it does have a pool and restauraunt (we went all out and got the only jacuzzi suite). It also has campsites. If nobody has 4x's, there are expeditions from town in some big German armny trucks. There's plenty to see/shoot just from the road or a short hike so don't worry if off-road isn't an option.

Anyways, here's a link to their Chamber of Commerce:

I am actually looking to move to the Oceanside area sooner than expected. Around February 15 or so. I am interested in getting emails from people in that area so I have some friends. Also still looking for a place to live. Trying hard, but the cost of living is higher than Kansas. Also having a hard time finding a good job that I am qualified for. If you all know of anything, I would appreciate emails. My information is below. THANKS!

THANKS ALOT AGAIN!!!!
BTW: I am really nervous about moving there so if anybody lives there that would be willing to help me trasistion better, I would be greatly appreciative.

I wish I knew more about that area. I'd just search //www.monster.com and //www.craigslist.org for jobs. Also, Careerbuilder.com has jobs too!

I wish you luck! Job hunting is hard. I went to staffing agencies til they found me something full time. It took months! I live in LA and was looking for work at a certain salary range, but you may have better luck down in Oceanside! I wish you the best!

Thank you mirdonamy! I have posted a resume on monster.com and I will look into the other one. If I have to work in a resteraunt or something temporary I will. But I am hoping to meet some people to be friends with, so when I get there, I won't be so lonely.

Thanks Again!
