I'm partial to "Donna the Buffalo" but I doubt they have any.

Of course there's always classical music...anything by Bach, Debussey, Handel....

Of course there's always classical music...anything by Dylan, Neil Young, The Grateful Dead....

Hi Max,

Thirty years ago, when my son was your age, I introduced him to the Big Bands of the late 1930s on through the 1940s. I recall he was greatly
impressed with the marvelous technique and accuracy
of drummer Gene Krupa, playing with Benny Goodman's
great swing orchestra. In short, there is a library of great sounds from that era, which you may not be familiar with.

By-the-way, one of my personal favorites is "Hotel
California" by the Eagles. I have it on a DVD and
never tire of watching and listening.

What do you listen to now?

I doubt any of my music would be on there...although I'm really loving the LaunchCast Radio that came with my Rogers High Speed internet subscription...it has almost all of my favourite music...stuff that you can't normally buy in a regular music store.

thanks JEM...when i asked for some music i didnt expect to see a whole new genre...this will take some time to absorb.

Hotel California is a great song...its also one of the few songs i dont mind hearing a cover of. The Gypsy Kings (A French Band...i dont know how i got into them) Just did a good cover of that song too.

Thanks to everyone who commented...this should keep me busy for a while

If you like Chevelle and You Spin Me Round. You would probably like the "You Spin Me Round" cover done by Dope. It's Awesome.

Cant have enough Tool, I dont think they have a single bad song.
Aything off Deftones (first cd)- "7 words" "Ordinary Love" and "The Chauffer" bieng the exception as they are both great songs and great covers.

edit: Oh yeah, Bright Eyes. They are simialr to The Postal Service but better.

Download every Postal Service song. Pay close attention to "The District Sleeps Alone Tonight," "Brand New Colony," "Such Great Heights," "Sleeping In," and "Natural Anthem"

And don't leave out Modest Mouse. Get "Ocean Breathes Salty," "Float On," "Bukowski," "The View," and "One Chance"

EDIT: Also get "The World At Large" by Modest Mouse. If your're getting the entire albums, the Modest Mouse album is Good News for People Who Like Bad News, and The Postal Service album is Give Up

You must also get the Garden State soundtrack.

Tom Waits (dark, intriguing, jazz, crude, beautiful, flirtacious, sad, angry... This guy will make you go through all the human responses, truly unique. Look for the early stuff for tame and late stuff for mad genius)

Frank Zappa (composer of various styles of music, very funny social satirist, guitar virtuoso...)

Residents (weird experimental music, the most underground band. Still creating after 30 years.)

Ramones (godfathers of punk - see also Iggy Pop - Sex Pistols learned to play listening to them. Truly amercican. Unfortunaly, three of them died in the last 3 years.)

Jimi Hendrix (Reputation made, don't need to add anything)

Hope you enjoy these few suggestions.

-Simon

(Edit)

P.S. Oh! Oh! New band I listen to a lot these days... Clinic. Check it out!

Now this statement could not be more correct. Godspeed you black emperor is my favourite band. Montreal also hosts a few other great bands, another great one is The Arcade Fire.

Here's a list of my top whatever artists:

Mercury Rev
Do Make Say Think
Explosions in the Sky
Heavy Vegetable (Pinback or Thingy or anything by Rob Crow)
Mogwai
Sigur Ros
The Arcade Fire
Neutral Milk Hotel

As for classics, I'm big on Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Syd Barret (early Pink Floyd) and occasional Lou Reed (and associates).

If you like non-traditional-instrument music check out:
Mouse on Mars
Amon Tobin
Boards of Canada
Aphex Twin

...and if you're jumping onto the Modest Mouse wagon, make sure to check out their old stuff, before they signed big. Although I'm very impressed with their new album, their old stuff is definitely just as good (many would say better, I wouldn't go that far).

If you like any of these, let me know...I've got plenty more...
