I see the canon 20D on Amazon merchants form $400 to $850 but you have to e-mail the seller. I ventured into this an did the e-mail found out that the equipment is supposedly shipped from Romania, Europe but the payment must be done with western union. I held my cards and I was unsure if this was a scam or what but I got confirmation through Amazon stating that my order is waiting payment. I'm just still too skeptical of what to do and thinking of the old cliche. "If it sounds too good to be true it probably isnt".
Need help with this one guys.

| Beware! I have talked to those people and informed Amazon about them... they are never there for more than a day, then come back with new business names!! They want you do completely bypass Amazon and order directly from them! Save yourself the headache! Luckily I figured out it was a scam and did not attempt to buy from them... |

I can't find the thread but it was a poster here that introduced me to www.419eater.com and a site devoted to the 419 advanced fee fraud. Have learnt a lot about Western Union transactions. Not wanting to put Western Union down but I reckon 99% of 'business' transactions through them are fraud.
Stear clear, you know what the cam is worth, save a few dollars where you can but try and keep within the realms of reality ;) |

If it sounds to good to be true, it probably is.
A reputable merchant will allow you to pay through Amazon's payment system rather than bypassing them.

Yeah I did some research online and these guys are all fraud there using western union because its paper trail free. Western Union is not a payment system its only a way to transfer money. Well I'm going to play with this guy I dealing with right now by jerking him around for a while. I going to even say I got the western union send me the camera first then I will release the western union control number.

No good. A Western Union payment can be picked up without the MTCN, having it just makes it easier. Besides... if he tried to pick up the payment and it wasn't there, he could turn around and charge you with fraud.

I was tempted by them too. I contacted the seller and was told about the Western Union Deal (in very very bad English).
I then checked with Amazon and was told they NEVER work like that, and I would not be protected in any way. They told me NOT do to it.
That same evening, the seller was no longer listed, but did send me another email that was made to look like it was from Amazon (which it wasn't)- again in very bad English.
I advised Amazon weeks ago that I suspected fraud, but never heard back from them.
I loved the ridiculous price, but I am completely sure that I would never have received a camera from them. |

mmmmmmmmmmm lemme see,,,,,, what Beetle said covers it for me too. Keep your money and buy it from a reputable dealer. I did see some great deals on ebay just the other day that you may want to check out.

I had some return e-mail converstaions with the gentlemen selling the Canon 20D and I asked for more proof of the product and so on....He was unable to and so I asked him to stop the deal. I acted as a gentlemen and told him I would buy my Canon 20D in the near future with my hard earned sweat and blood and I would appreciate it more if I earned it.
He replied "Send the money or cancel the deal"
I realized something from all this today. Something my grand dad told me a long time ago. "You can have anything in the world you want...You just have to earn it."
Well I guess this was a lesson learnt and now its time to get back to the better things taking more pictures, better pictures.
